Covid-19. A pandemic which casts not only a ghostly shadow in the horizon, but sets the world a high record in the history of medication. It has changed the global routine, where human activities were hampered. It has modified the dominant cultures, and religious traditions were also altered. Worldwide problems on human survival are caused by a treacherous, deadly and invisible common enemy: the corona virus.

Life is an endless game and continuous battle. We are currently facing one of the biggest challenges of our lives, the corona virus outbreak. Its significant occurrence has made humans experience a prolonged period of uncertainty. It has shaken the fundamentals of our society. What started as a health crisis, has transformed into a full-blown economic crisis, which has affected the world yielding financial crisis. It has destroyed consumption concern and activities, and paralyzed the economy. The present economic status which is mostly dominated by consumerism, is grinding effectively in lame, causing grave. Given these circumstances, there is a need to strictly follow the protocols and multiple strategies in response to the corona virus outbreak.

How is life for us, during the Covid-19 pandemic? Preventive measures such as social distancing and avoiding mass gatherings, wearing of face masks and face shields, monitoring and isolation to suspected “balik-probinsya” carriers, are strictly implemented in the municipality. The Mayor in town is very vigilant in implementing the rules and regulations to keep safe and well the people of Buguey. It is with high regard and pride that we are one of the municipalities in the Congressional District of Cagayan without a recorded positive case, with the deadly corona virus. The force and stronghold of the town is within the discipline of the people and observance of the rules promulgated by the Department of Health disseminated by the frontliners, barangay health workers and task force unit. The success in combating the disease, lies in the hands of everyone.

Whether we admit it or not, the Covid-19 pandemic has brought resiliency out of us. We have been through strict ECQ guidelines like staying home, not going out, doing sort of activities, aside from attending our necessary basic needs. We may not be used to these norms, but in the past few months, we have proven that we can adapt to circumstances we are into. Efforts to contain the virus include significantly increasing government powers, both local and national, with corresponding limits on civil liberties as well as disruption to individual’s activity to work and socialize. The Department of Education and Commission on Higher Education have formulated alternatives to let learning continue through online classes, radio broadcasting and television, modular or the so-called blended learning. Our own local government headed by Mayor Lloyd M. Antiporda has taken broad range of steps to combat the economic disruptions caused by Covid-19. Numerous relief operations have been made to ensure that no one is hungry and weak. Despite all the hardships, anxieties and fears, we still managed to find ways to be creative and productive. One of which, is this online essay writing, singing contest, and chess tournament, that SK Federation has organized, to uphold the skills and talents of the youths.

While it is true that negative thoughts sometimes comes easily and feelings of fear creeps into our hearts, we have to bear in mind that we are not alone. We have a great God. Keeping a positive mindset can go alongway in managing ourselves during these trying times. We have a community that we can turn to, families, friends and relatives to cling to. We have our municipal officials, barangay officials, SK officials and our dedicated frontliners. They make us stronger everyday as we battle against the worldwide enemy.

We are here to uplift humanity. We, the Bugueyanos, are fortunate to witness the many acts of kindness where selfless efforts and steady support from the government and civic-spirited persons can be seen and felt. With the uncompromising love of the Lord, and the love we have for one another, I am sure that we will HEAL AS ONE. Let it be as it may…
