Russian officials say they are working to become the first country in the world to approve the coronavirus vaccine by August 10.
Russia's Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) chief Kirill Dimitriev and other Russian officials were quoted in a report as saying that the country's top news agency, Tas.
"Russian authorities are approving the Kovid-19 vaccine, developed by the Moscow-based Gamaliya Institute," a US television channel said.
Russia's health ministry said in a press release on Monday that work on the second phase of clinical trials of the anti-coronavirus vaccine, developed by the Gamalia Research Center, was nearing completion.
As of Wednesday, more than 800,000 corona patients had been diagnosed in Russia and 13,463 had died, according to the Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
