UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday warned that the Covid-19 epidemic was increasing the risk to peace everywhere.
"This is a huge threat to the conflict-affected people, which is why I have called for an immediate ceasefire around the world," he said at the 39th anniversary of the International Day of Peace.
Every year on September 21, the International Day of Peace is celebrated around the world. The Peace Bell show is broadcast live worldwide. Volkan Bozkir, the new president of the UN General Assembly and the General Assembly, stood on the stage at an appropriate distance, keeping in line with the management of Kovid-19.
"I will make this call again in the general debate next week," he said.
For the first time in its 65-year history, the annual meeting of world leaders at the United Nations is being held in a virtual manner due to the Kovid-19 epidemic. The first day of the general debate will be September 22.
"Peace is never granted," Guterres said, adding that "it is an aspiration that is as strong as our resolve and as sustainable as our expectations."
‘Building a peaceful, stable society can take decades or even centuries. But reckless, divisive policies can immediately disrupt peace, "he said.
"Wherever there is a conflict, there is a need for peace, and where there is a diplomatic opportunity to fire a gun, try to use it," he said.
Bozkir said the ongoing epidemic has threatened health, safety and people's livelihoods everywhere.
Ya, it's right. I am feeling it. There was a marriage function in my family. Very few people attended the function. They just came and within few minutes they disappeared, even they don't take food.
