The liberation war of Bangladesh began in 1971. It took around 9 months to achieve independence.
Bangladesh is a small country; so it was quite impossible to fight against big country like Pakistan all alone. That time many countries, people, organizations helped us.
I am going to share someone who had played a great role.
Today is 1st August. On this very day in 1971 former "beatles" guitarist George Harrison and Indian "sitar" player Ravi Shangkar organized a live benefit concert at Madison Square Garden in New York. Around 40,ooo people were present there though the US was in opposition of the independence of Bangladesh.
Due to genocide, about 1 crore refugees went to India. But the expense for this much people is higher. Again, due to a devastating cyclone in 1970 most of the Bengali's were helpless. So the concert was very import to create public opinion in fair of our liberation.
However, it was a successful concert. The initial gate receipts raised close to $250,000 for Bangladesh relief. It was used for helping the refugees through UNICEF.
The people of Bangladesh still remember these great people. Their names are attached in the birth history of Bangladesh.
Respect for the great foreign heroes on this 49th anniversary❤
