The Beginning
Oh boy! What a day! The second part of my FPT is almost officially on. I say almost because tomorrow will be the first class or time out on the field. I have always know that the journey across state lines in Nigeria can be so stressful, but certain states top that list eg. Lagos.
When the decision to add Lagos as one of our station was made, I was quite elated as I thought I was going to learn a lot, have a lot of adventure as well as fun. The closer it got, the less interested I was in it and by yesterday, I just wanted to get on with it, be done with it and move on.
So, we left from my faculty by about say 10:00AM. The journey was pretty smooth, considering it's Lagos. There was no incident along the way nor were there any serious traffic jam as people have come to known both the Benin-Lagos expressway for, neither was there any serious one within the area we drove through in Lagos itself. Okay, there was one incident, though minor. A part of the underside of the vehicle tore off and was dragging on the ground until some of my mates took notice of it and relayed that to the driver.
Overall, I can say it was a wonderful journey, howbeit expensive, cos we took the luxurious bus, but it was totally worth it. I would choose it over and over again.
The twist actually started when we got to the institute( (The name of the institute is National Institute For Oceanography and Marine Research). It's actually a research facility, which is one of the reasons we chose to be here.). The place seemed overrun by weed which was a sight that's direct opposite of our expectation, but the shocker came when I learned that the hostel allocated to us for accommodation hasn't been cleaned.
Trust me, I was livid but had to be cool, cos I'm supposedly representing my school. As smooth as the journey was, it was still tiring and to think I had to still come and be doing so much work cleaning the allocated apartment. By the time I was done, I was feeling really wasted, and I couldn't do anything else, hence couldn't cook.
Thank God for @Mhizutty who helped me made noodles which I had for dinner. Even as i type this article, it's out of sheer will not to neglect my account, because i know if I start skipping from the first day, by the third day, I might have forgotten about read.cash altogether.
While we are residing here at this campus, there's a second campus and we are expected to man both campus. As a result, we have been divided into two groups, and one will be stationed here, while one will have to go to the other station. I'm with the group going the other station and due to the traffic situation here in Lagos, we are expected to leave as early as 5:00AM. To make that time, I would have to wake up as early as 3:00AM, so as it is, I can not get more than four 3hrs+ of sleep.
We are yet to really start and I'm already really tired of it all. I know just like most things in life, it's the beginning that will be the hardest and just like those who have conquered in their various endeavors, I won't give up and eventually, I will conquer.
All thanks be to God for the journey mercy
