So Not Worth It
How often do you get home and reflect on your day, and you just wish you had never gone out of the bed that morning; like the say wasn't worth the trouble you had to pay for getting out of bed? Well, that's exactly how I feel right now, except for the small fact that I'm actually not home. That was a lie, there's nothing small about my not being home, because as a result of that I haven't had good or real food and the promise of a night's rest seem like a luxury I'm not going to enjoy tonight.
How Did I Get Here??
Well, my money needs right at about this period is becoming exceedingly choking for me, hence I need to find other means of raising funds, hence my occasional freelance gigs, which usually depends on what is available. My favorite though, is something that has to do with my field; working in a fish farm. So when I got such a gig on Tuesday, I was quite elated, as it was supposedly going to mean some extra funds in my negative-valued wallet😂. Only if I knew what I know now.
The gig is supposed to be a two-day gig. Normally, working with my usual and preferred partner, I could have gotten the job done today as we are known for our immense work chemistry and speed, but he's currently in Far away Lagos state, so I had to find someone else and the only person available as a result of the industrial action by the university's lecturers was pretty much a novice ( he doesn't think so though). On a normal day, I could never bring myself to work with this guy, but I wasn't having options.
The conditions attached to this gig made it even harder. The job is to sort 10,000 post juvenile-Jumbo fishes. A condition was placed that we only work when the weather is cool, implying morning and evening. So we had to give up our sleep today, so we can be here as early as possible. On getting here though, we realised there was no power and the generator was bad, so we had to wait for arrangements to be made for that. This resulted in us started quite late even though we gave up our sleep to get here early.
We did our best, but I don't even think we got up to 5,000. The worst part was that, as per the terms of the gig, they were suppose to provide food and accommodation for today and tomorrow, but we've had to work on empty stomachs because they didn't fulfill that and there's nowhere to get food around here. With the tiredness and hunger, I've been trying to get some sleep, but the accommodation they provided is almost as hot as a bakery environment. Currently, as I'm typing this, I'm outside because i couldn't take it anymore, but then mosquitoes are feasting on me.
I don't think I've ever had a worse gig. After all the stress, I still can't get any sleep and I'm been made to choose between been cooked and getting malaria. It's beginning to seem to me that whatever little money I was going to make from this will be spent treating Malaria when I get back. With all this, I still have to get up and start as early as possible.
Conclusion
Next time, before I take a gig, I'll be very particular about some basic stuffs. This is really the last time I'll have someone treat me like this. The most annoying part of this is that, at the end of the day, all they'll say, is to say sorry; sorry for yourselves!! To them, not you😂
That's too bad. They don't have mercy.
