Relationships

In today's world, a lot of things are becoming a shadow of what they used to be. Recently we heard of the group of students who were selected to go to Dubai to represent their school in a competition. They went there and while their teachers had gone to bed, they gathered to play truth or dare that resulted in some of them engaging in sexual activities (that some married people aren't even good at). It's alarming and even become quite alarming when you realize both kids were just ten and thirteen years respectively. How they could be doing such immoral act is beyond me. The sickest part of this, is that someone was recording them and the video somehow landed on social media platforms. I wonder if it was another ten year student who did that evil. These are supposed to be children, focusing on their academics. It's really shameful how the society have failed!

Back to the intended topic for today. When I see two people in a relationship, I can't help myself but begin to ask questions in my head about what the true value of their relationship is. Before now, going into a relationship or a date was an opportunity to assess the value and compatibility of your partner. Relationships were served as something I'll like to call pre-courting. But today's generation must always find a way to defile and redefine everything. Today's youth usually go into a relationship for a plethora of reasons, and the major ones aren't about love, or care.

So why Then??

Fun

It's really sad and shameful for me to even say it, because it's mostly my generation and age group that's adopted this as a good enough reason to start a relationship. This is the major reason for relationships today as everybody would love to have fun and most people think it's okay to play with another person's emotional life like that. These kind of relationship are now common place.

Support

There's a whole different group whom one can call either a parasite or gold diggers. These kind of relationships are predicated on the ability of one to provide a very specific service or goods that the other needs or want. As long as the supplies and support keeps coming, all is good, but if not.

Pressure

There's a different category. These are people who feel they've come of age and need to have life partner. These group of women go into relationship just because they need to find a partner. In these kinds of relationship, the self-esteem of the person who's under pressure is usually reduced and the other party is likely to take be taken advantage of.

Love/Partner

Love is indeed a beautiful thing. This category of people go into relationships because they love the person wholly and dearly. They are often in it, because they believe there's a future where they get to spend the rest of their lives with their partner. This is the true purpose of relationships.

Conclusion

It's sad, the way we create our own versions and forms of every principles, norms and practice. If you're ready for a relationship and one you believe in, go for it, but if you're just the type who just want to do it for fun or support, you need to grow over these your junenile deliquescence. If you're the type to enter into one out of pressure, just know you will be cheating yourself in so many ways. It's important we are vigilant when it comes to these things, so we don't end up in relationships with people who have no idea what a relationship is.
