What is the punishment for not telling others about good deeds?

Allaah has instructed man to do good deeds. He said to cooperate with each other in good deeds. Allah says, ‘O you who believe! Help one another in righteousness and piety. '(Surat al-Ma'ida)

When a servant does good deeds for himself and extends a helping hand to others, Allah also extends a helping hand to that person. It has been narrated in the hadith, "As long as a Muslim is engaged with the help of his other Muslim brother, Allah also extends his help to him." (Muslim, Nasai, Tirmidhi)

On the other hand, those who advise (people) to do good deeds and to refrain from evil deeds, but do good deeds according to the advice themselves and do not refrain from evil deeds, have clear guidelines in the Qur'an and Hadith. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Tell the people to follow the path of justice; But forget yourself. But you continue to study the Book. Do you not use your intellect? '(Surat al-Baqara: verse 44)

In another verse, Allah clearly instructs the believers to be admonished and says: ‘O you who believe! Why do you say things that you do not obey? It is most displeasing to Allah to tell you what you do not do. '(Surah As-Saff: verses 2-3)

Therefore, every believing Muslim should do what he himself will do and advise others to do.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) declared punishment for telling others to do good deeds without doing good deeds. It has been narrated in the hadith-

Hazrat Usama bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I heard the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) say that on the Day of Resurrection a person will be brought and thrown into Hell. As a result, his entrails will come out. He would keep circling it over and over again, the way the donkey kept circling over and over again.

The inmates of Hell will gather around him and ask, O (so-and-so) man! Why are you in this condition? Would you not enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong?

In reply he would say, ‘Yes’ I would order honest work but I would not do it myself. I would tell others to refrain from doing bad things, but I would not do it myself. '(Bukhari and Muslim)

In the light of the above-mentioned hadith, it is understood that before giving advice to others, it is necessary to implement that advice among oneself. There are two benefits to this.> One is that one can be free from the hardships or punishments declared in the hadith. Or any action taken will be duly performed. This advice of that person will be implemented properly.

Therefore, it is possible to achieve success in this world and in the hereafter by doing good deeds and advising others to refrain from evil deeds.

May Allaah grant the Muslim Ummah the Tawfeeq to do more and more good deeds. In addition to good deeds, give the gift of good deeds to others. Amen.
