DSWD Educational Assistance: Pros & Cons
The educational assistance is now trending anywhere in the country. This program is a financial aid for the education of the less privileged students in the Philippines. A lot of students are struggling to finish theirs studies due to the lack of means or financial support. In this program, it will enable to support the students who are in needs. The DSWD stands for Department of Social Welfare and Development is the executive department of the Philippines government that protects the rights of every Filipinos.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will give a cash assistance for the school year 2022-2023. According to Erwin Tulfo, the cash assistance is to provide help to the indigent students this school year. Children coming from poor families will be given cash assistance to buy their school supplies and other school necessities.
While this might seem a good opportunity for the poor students, it carries a number of pros and cons.
Let's start to the Pros first.
•It will totally help the students to buy their school supplies
This cash assistance can really help a lot of students who have no budget or money to buy school supplies for the face to face this school year.
•It will encourage students to go back to school
Since the pandemic begun, a lot of students had stopped. A lot of reasons are due to the economic crisis because of the pandemic and the other lose the concentration to study due to the fact that's it's only an online class. With this cash assistance, it will motivate a lot of students to go back to the school.
•It will help the unemployed parents
There are unemployed parents who don't want to send their children to school due to the fact that they have no money for school necessities. The government cash assistance will totally help unemployed parents to provide the needs of their child.
However, there are also Cons in giving a cash assistance.
•The central/field offices are too far
Not all poor students and families can avail the opportunity due to the fact that the pay-out offices are too far from their homes. Those who are living in the secluded provinces and without internet connectivity will find it hard to grab the cash assistance.
•Some institutional heads will not distribute the money properly
This is not new in Philippines, in fact this is very familiar. When it comes to cash assistance budget, corruption will never cease to exist. Yes, you have heard that right. Some highest official will not distribute the budget properly and they all like to divide the budget intended for the poor students. This is one of the reality in the Philippines.
•Other parents/students will not use the money to buy school supplies
This is the downside of giving cash assistance, it doesn't guarantee that they will use the money for the purpose. Some will only use it to pay debts, other unnecessary things and worse they will use the money for shopping without prioritizing the school necessities.
I believe that this short program will really help a lot of unprivileged students. I just hope that they will give it to the deserving ones. Education is indeed the key to succeed in life but not everyone are fortunate to obtain that. I know the country's government is doing the best to provide everyone the access to formal education especially now that we are slowly going back to the traditional way of learning.
