The 1930 FIFA World Cup was the first football World Cup to be held. It is held in Uruguay from 13 to 30 July. FIFA assigned Uruguay the right to host the World Cup at the Barcelona Seminar in 1929, the year that marked the centenary of Uruguay's independence, and the Uruguayan football team successfully won the football title at the 1928 Summer Olympics.
13 teams took part in the competition. There were 9 teams from America and 4 from Europe. Many European teams refrain from participating in the competition due to travel costs and time. The first two matches of the World Cup were played simultaneously between France and Mexico to win 4-1, and between the United States and Belgium to win 3-0. The first goal of the World Cup was scored by Lucien Laurent of France. Finalists Uruguay and Argentina advanced to the final and # Uruguay beat Argentina 4-2 in front of 93,000 spectators to claim their first World Cup title.
