Here in Serbia, when somethig is none of our business, we say 'Not my circus and not my monkey'.
People say this very often, for many things. For example, when someone is having any kind of a problem. But, is it really that way? Are other people's problems our business, specially if we can help them.
Not only in Serbia, but all around the world, people seem to be interested only in their own problems, even when they can help other people, even when other people need them.
First of all, domestic violence is a problem that has hit many people, specially women, children and elder people. Socieaty sometimes, well not sometimes, very often, leave victims to solve their problem by they own.
Domestic violence is a violence that family members are conducting on other members of their families.
As I said victims are usually women, children and old people, which means that bullies are usually husbands, parents and children. Husbands are torturing their wifes, parents their young children, and children their old parents.
I can talk a lot about domestic violence, about all the victims and about situations they find themselves in. But, that would be very long, so here I will write only something very shourt about a couple cases.
In Serbia, police had a criminal charges, from a woman, who was hit with a hammer by her husband. Later that woman took back her chargers.
Some women where beaten up to death.
Some of them were humilated and tortured in front of their children.
Some of them were thrown from balcony.
Usually victims are woman, and very often that lasts for years, because of that, some women have terrible psychical consequences. Some of them have a beaten woman syndrom, which is a type of beaten person syndrome. Person, who has this syndrom is very afraid of everything what is happenig. Person is constantly afraid and because of that her mental health is destroyed. Those persons at one point cannot handle anymore and because of that they need to 'get out' of their situation.
Women, who do not have kids, or whose kids are not victims of domestic violence, decide to kill themselves, and to end violence.
Women, who have kids, or whose kids are also victims of domestic violence, decide to kill their violent husbands. They just do not have anything other to do, because society is not there for them.
There are some institutions, who are supposed to help them, but it seem that it is not enough. Because of that I think that we, as a society have to do something for those women, and not only women, also gor children, old people, and all other people, who are victims of violence.
If all of us are ready to help them, they will have chance for a normal life, they will have chances to leave their bullies and they will survive and live a normal life.
So, next time, think twice is it your circus and is it your monkey.
