Most often both are used interchangeable, but it's important to have both because one doesn't work without the other and because purpose and meaning are very critical for the survival of your business.

What is the company hopes and dreams?
In the real sense, the vision statement promotes growth within the company and outside the company, and a strong vision helps team focus on what matters to the growth of the company. While mission statement gives the company clue and reason for them to grow and know why they are in business, this has to do with the presence and what the company is set to achieve.
