The funny thing about snoring is that the person who snores isn’t the one suffering. it is their partners, bed mates and roommates that have to are deprived of a good sleep and have to hold the pillows over their ears. Which is why anything that will help get rid of snoring is always welcome.

People try out different things from anti-snore nasal strips to mouth guards and of course the age-long anti-snoring pillows too which many people are still uncertain whether it does work or not,

Anti-snoring pillows are specially designed to attack a sleeper’s urge to snore through a combination of different ways. To understand anti-snoring pillows and how they work, one needs to understand why people snore in the first place

Why do people snore?

Snoring can be caused by a number of factors. but basically, it occurs as a result of a blockage of the airways which is caused by varieties of reason. Most people who snore are back sleepers which means they fall asleep on their backs usually with their mouths wide open. Their jaws are left relaxed and dropped backward which usually leaves the tongue slipping to the back of the throat. this blocks the airway and causes the sleeper to snore.

based on this general mechanism, an antisnore pillow acts to prevent snoring by counteracting all of the factors that cause snoring and prevents the blockage of the airways.

Here are some of the features of anti-snoring pillows that helps to prevent snoring:

Common features of anti-snoring pillows

Hypoallergenic materials: allergens in pillow can sometimes cause snoring. which is why an anti-snoring pillow is made with hypoallergenic materials designed to keep allergens away and

Washable and dryable: this is related to the earlier mentioned point. Anti-snoring pillows are easy to maintain.

aligning your head and your shoulders: anti-snoring pillows are shaped to help you maintain an open airway by aligning your heads and your shoulders whether you are a back sleeper or you sleep in the sideways position

Shaped to fit your body: antisnoring foams are also designed in such a way that it fits your body ergonomically while you sleep.

The deciding factor- antisnoring pillow and your sleeping position

The major factor that determines whether antisnoring pillows work for you or not is perhaps the sleeping position. because people sleep in different positions, the way they are affected by anti-snoring effects of this anti-snoring pillows differ. if you sleep on your stomach, for example, an anti-snoring pillow will most likely not be able to help you with your snoring as it is designed more specifically to help those who sleep in their back or on their side.

For Back Sleepers

it is a well-established fact that sleeping on your back increases the chances of snoring during sleep drastically. Most antisnoring pillows are designed to reduce snoring in back sleepers and they usually do the job well especially if you snore lightly.

Generally, anti-snore pillows for back sleepers are designed to have a concave section with a large support at the back of the neck. These antisnore pillows work by pulling your head back and aligning your neck in order to keep the airways open always.

For Side Sleepers

Sleeping on your side should normally reduce the chances of snoring. Thus if you still snore despite sleeping on your side then you have more than just a mild case. The anti-snore pillows are designed to help you maintain a correct posture while sleeping on your side as well. they keep you head slightly angled downwards and keep your tongue from blocking the airways.

Bottom line – It might not work

The plain truth is that anti-snoring pillows are not for everyone. Some people simply find them uncomfortable and might be able to sleep with them. You should note however that it takes some time to get used to and you might settle into it later on.

In some cases, however, the pillow only alleviates the problem and never really solves it, this is still a good result at the end of the day. But for some, they see no changes even after using anti-snoring pillows. Also, in some cases, snoring is not caused by your sleeping position but by other factors in which case the pillow might end up not helping.

Types of Anti-Snore Pillows

Generally an antisnore pillow is meant to prevent snoring by helping the snorer maintain and ideal position during sleep. It is created to keep you perched at a comfortable angle sideways or while lying on your back. Manufacturers try their best to come up with different ways of achieving this effectively while ensuring that the pillow is comfortable to use and contributes to a better sleep quality.

Most commonly, you will find the following types of anti-snore pillows:

wedge

memory foam

cervical support

U-shaped body pillows

straight full-body pillow etc.

it is also possible to find anti-snore pillow that is a combination of some of the above or some combination of the above.
