A year without summer

30.12.2020.

Dear friends, we remember 2020 by evil, fear, pandemic, death, uncertainty on the entire planet. But there are worse things in life.Scientists say the worst year in history was 1816.

Also called the "year without summer", 1816 was really the scariest year since the meteorological documentation existed. Also known in the USA as "Eighteen hundred and froze to death", this is the year that will be remembered in history as the one in which all twelve months were winter!

January and February had average temperatures and in March the temperature starts to drop. And in April and May it rained constantly and in June and July it snowed. The frost was everyday and we were waiting for the summer that did not come. After the winter, the winter came again.

What actually happened?

No one had an explanation for this phenomenon. It was not until 1920 that the American scientist No one had an explanation for this phenomenon. It was not until 1920 that the American scientist William Humphreys set up a hypothesis that is still accepted by most climatologists.set up a hypothesis that is still accepted by most climatologists. The largest eruption in history occurred on April 10, 1815. The Tambora volcano then erupted between 100 and 150 cubic kilometers of magma and began a miniature ice age.

The sound echoed through Sumatra (almost 2000km in a circle), and the ash from the eruption was found about 1300km northwest. It was dark for two days, covering a region about the size of the continental United States. More than 12,000 locals and their neighborhoods lost their lives immediately after the eruption. According to recent estimates, more than 60,000 people lost their lives when lava spilled over surrounding villages and households.

The presence of ash in the atmosphere caused a drastic drop in temperature, which further causes famine and increases the number of deaths to more than 100,000. Europe was particularly affected at that time, and 1816 is known as the year without summer.Other volcanoes that were active during that period were Soufriere in St. Vincent in the Caribbean and Mayon in the Philippines.

A MONSTER BORN FROM ASH AND FIRE

In 1816, a group of European tourists tried to enjoy a sunny summer vacation in the Swiss Alps, but failed. One of them wrote "Morning came and went - and came again, and did not bring the day." This was skillfully described by Lord Byron. His companions on the journey were the poet Percy Bish Shelley and his fiancée, Mary Wallstonecraft. In the gloomy days of vacation, tourists were entertained by ghost stories by the campfire. Byron's Dracula was overshadowed by Bram Stoker, but the story of Mary, later known as Mary Shelley, expressed the suffering of that time in a novel that turns the nature of humanity into a horrible and enduring story of all time, through her novels about "Frankenstein"

Consequences of the "year without summer"

The frost destroyed all the crops, and the famine that followed started a whole series of crimes, social riots and riots around the world.

It is estimated that famine has killed 200,000 people in Europe alone. Ireland was among the hardest hit countries, and the Chinese were forced to stop planting rice and start growing, at that point, more profitable poppies, spreading what would later be known as the opium market.

Riots broke out in Britain and France, and food warehouses were looted. The violence was strongest in Switzerland, which had little arable land, and the authorities in that country declared a state of emergency due to general hunger.

Brown snow was falling in Hungary, and red in Italy. Snow has also been recorded in Taiwan, which otherwise has a tropical climate. In America, many historians consider the "Year without Flight" to be the main cause of the movement of American colonists to the west. The population started looking for richer land and better conditions for crops.

In addition to famine, the disease also spread. As the cold paralyzed the northern hemisphere, the monsoons ravaged the southern, so one of the deadliest typhus epidemics in history followed shortly after. The dead numbered in the tens of thousands.

Nature is capricious. We never know what will happen. Volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis ... I want a year without summer to never happen!

If this kind of event occurred now the number of people dying would be counted in billions:
The lockdowns governments impose now would cause entire regions to starve
as food production ends and delivery chains disintegrate under layers
of failed economies that have been train-wrecked by misguided edicts.

I completely agree with you. But look at that time and time now. Now, technique, technology, medicine have been developed, and the world is locked and there is no help
