On this day in 1944, the allied forces or America, Britain,and Canada stormed the coast of Normandy to liberate northern France from Nazi Germany's control. Known as D-Day, the start of Operation is one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history. The operation is also the turning point of world war II in Europe.

On the dawn of 6 June, thousand or paratroopers from allied forces were deployed behind enemy lines to capture bridge and exit roads across France. Due to earlier deception operations,the beaches of Normandy were less guarded.

On D-Day, about 156,000 allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy to fight off the German forces .with ensuing aerial attacks and naval bombardments, the beaches fcodnamed Gold,Juno,Sword ,and Utah were immediately captured but the troops faced strong opposition at the Omaha beach,By 11 June, all the five beaches were fully secured with over 326,000 troops and 50,000 vehicles landed on the region .
