Morath Island part 2
Part 1
Thousands of years before we could even make a carriage, the Morath already had infinitely more efficient technology. The problem is that given their secrecy, only stories remained of those lucky enough to be allowed to tour the island and admire its magnificence. Flying carriages, humanoids performing household chores, a modern aqueduct system that perplexed visitors and undoubtedly inspired other civilizations, and the most eccentric thing about the place: the longevity of its inhabitants.
The island of Morath had citizens up to 300 years old, with the health of a 60-year-old human. Their diet was not so different from other places, but the purity of their food was something that could not be explained. The last known explorer to visit the island lived 115 years. Amadeus Bennett visited the island thousands of years ago and in one of the few fragments of the book he wrote that could be rescued from the library of Alexandria, Bennett explained how after eating fruit offered by the locals, his health improved considerably, to the point of curing ailments he had, and because of this, he could live over 100 years.
Great people with great content
The mysteries that this island contains remain an enigma to this day, and what are only stories and bedtime stories seem to be the most real thing that exists. The problem is that when this town disappeared, its secrets were gone too.
Remember when I told you about that unknown energy? Well, thanks to it, Morath Island achieved great things, and it is that same energy that could make it disappear (at least on our plane). Something greater than symbolism hides this island, and that there is no relevant official record makes the search more exhaustive.
There are records of impressive activities coming from the island, but more than records, they seem like legends to capture attention. Some claim that they were such advanced people, that during their beginnings, they had technology comparable to the year 2060 of our times; the problem is that such advances were not open to tourists because they were restricted from seeing things that were beyond their understanding. However, Amadeus Bennett tells in one of the rescued papyri, that Morath Island was full of eyes that watched everything, that were there, calculating every step you took, and that they were neither animals nor spirits, they were something else. Perhaps Amadeus was referring to security cameras when something like that was unthinkable.
They were not expansionist, but very proud. Nobody ever saw no one from the island conquering other worlds, but everyone knew of the island that no one could conquer. It is said that the most common feeling of the visitors was that of feeling inferior to the greatness of Morath. People know that with all the intention in the world, with each visit, the island was conditioned to show itself more advanced, but not so much so as not to dazzle the visitors, and not to spread possible secrets of their advances.
They only showed the tip of the iceberg, and even then it was enough to surprise every visitor to the island in a big way, making them see a world with incredible potential. It is as if they enjoyed the surprise generated by things that for the Morathians, were simple, crude, and old-fashioned. What were they up to if they had the power to conquer any nation?
It is curious to ask that question, because the day Morath disappeared, in what many say was an earthquake, a tsunami, or any disaster big enough to wipe out an entire island, absolutely nothing was found. Nobodies, no clothes, no treasures, everything disappeared, but the most incredible thing is that the island that everyone saw in wonder was never seen again. Where the Morathians went, there went the island and all its secrets.
To be continued...
