How to save electricity

At home we have many computers that consume a large amount of electricity, that is why we have to take into account some recommendations to avoid excessive consumption of this service.

Keep reading and you will find some recommendations that will be very useful when using your electrical equipment:

THE AIR CONDITIONING

  • Call a specialist every year to inspect it. It is preferable to pay a person once a year, than to waste electricity unnecessarily and risk the equipment breaking down.

  • Clean or change the filter regularly. The filter has the function of removing impurities from the air. If the filter is dirty and full of dust, the air does not flow easily and the efficiency of the appliance is considerably reduced by having to work more.

  • On windows, put curtains or blinds that reduce the entry of heat. In windows that receive direct sunlight, install awnings or shutters to reduce the heat that seeps through them. Inside the house, install curtains and blinds on all the windows but try not to interrupt the air flow from the appliance.

  • If you have trees around the exterior walls so that they shade or cover the roof of the house, it will help the air conditioner to work with less intensity.

  • Install the air conditioner in a shady place, not in direct sunlight. That way, the condenser can more easily draw the heat out of the house. Sometimes that shade can be achieved by planting a large tree or plant near the fixture but not too closely. Try to keep the grates outside, free of leaves or debris.

  • Put sealing tapes on the edges of windows and doors where air can escape.

KITCHEN:

  • Always cook with the containers covered so that the heat does not escape and the cooking time is less. Use little water and reduce the heat after the food has reached the evaporation point. A few minutes before removing food from the stove or oven, turn off the heat to take advantage of the heat.

  • The microwave oven uses less energy than an electric stove.

  • Use utensils that cover the size of the burner. For example, a 6-inch saucepan on an 8-inch burner wastes a lot of heat. Preferably use flat bottom pots that make contact with the burners.

  • Try as much as possible to cook all your food in a saucepan so that you only need to light one burner. Use the highest temperature, just to bring the food to a boil, and then lower it to the required temperature. The less intense the heat, the less electricity it will consume.

THE OVEN

  • When you have to bake a food, try to bake several at a time. For example, bake two cakes at the same time and save one of them frozen for the next day.

  • Always keep the oven door closed while using it. A time marker that tells you when to remove the food from the oven will be very helpful because you don't have to be opening and closing the oven door to check it.

  • Preheat the oven for foods that need less than an hour to cook. Those that require more than that time should be placed with the oven cold.

  • Remove meats from the refrigerator an hour before you start cooking and leave them at room temperature. In this way, it shortens the defrosting time and consumes less energy.

DISHWASHER

  • Run it only when it is full, that is, put breakfast, lunch and dinner utensils together to wash them together. In this way, you save electricity, water and maintenance.

  • Use strictly the amount of detergent indicated in the instructions. Using too much or too little can reduce the efficiency of the appliance.

WASHER AND DRYER:

  • To wash, wait until you have a group of clothes that fill the appliance but without recharging it. The washing machine will work the same with very little or an average quantity. Always read the instructions in the manual before using it for the first time. If you run the washer and dryer with too many clothes, you will waste time and electricity because they will not be clean.

  • Use the right temperature. If you wash in warm water and rinse in cold water, you will use less electricity than with hot water.

  • Use the amount of detergent indicated in the manufacturer's manual. As with the dishwasher, using too much or too little will not give you good results.

  • Remove lint that is trapped. If the filter is clogged, the efficiency of the appliance is reduced and electricity is wasted unnecessarily.

THE FRIDGE

  • Try to open the refrigerator door as little as possible. Take out everything you will need for lunch at once.

  • Make sure flexible gaskets around doors seal tightly. If the air is blown out, the compressor will work harder and you will have to pay unnecessary money. In that case, change the gaskets as soon as possible.

  • Prevent frost from accumulating more than a quarter inch. If you have excess, electricity is wasted because the appliance will have to work harder. Read the instructions on how to remove dust from the condenser coil.

  • Try not to block air circulation by not placing food against the air intake

WASTE SHREDDER

  • When you put it to work, use cold water. Open the tap first and leave it for approx. 10 seconds after the food scraps have been shredded.

LIGHTS

  • Turn off lights you are not using unless they are needed for safety.

  • Turn off the television, radio and audio player if no one is watching or listening to them.

  • Install preferably fluorescent light. If you use incandescent bulbs, a single 100-plug bulb is better than two 60-plugs.

WATER HEATER

  • I set the thermostat to a medium temperature. If you have a dishwasher or there are many people living in your home, the recommended temperature is 140 ° F (60 ° C).

  • Cover the heater with fiberglass insulation.

  • Cover the outer tubes.

  • Make sure the hot water faucets do not have leaks.

I really like all the tips that are focused on having extra greenery around your house! I live in an apartment, but luckily my A/C is in a shady corner. We always unplug unneeded things at night (i will wait 30 extra seconds for my tv to turn on thank you) instead of letting the standby trickle power
