Our planet is not a garbage bin
Warm greetings to all read.cash members. Its summer vacation here. The summer vacation here for schools and colleges lasts for two months, April and May. It comes to an end by May last. As the heat becomes quiet unbeatable during these months we planned for a short vacation to one of the coolest place in South India. A short family visit to a resort town in the Southern mountain area.
On our arrival to the town the first thing I noticed was "Our planet is not a garbage bin" - this logo was being displayed in the centre of the town on an earth shaped model. And the next catchy caption that went on throughout the town inthe form of various banners was "Plastics are to be avoided" and a short note below showing - heavy fine will be imposed for those who use and throw plastics in public place.
But just the display alone can't change the habits of the people. Continuous monitoring, regular awareness and to penalize when necessary can alone make it a 'non plastic free zone'. Tbe banners and placards for a non plastic free zone are placed in all cisoble areas.
Though I did not see most local peoples avoiding plastics completely, most of the tourists seem to follow the rule. The government seems to take initiative in keeping the city free from plastics.
When we got into a grocery shop to purchase a bottled water, we noticed that the local plastic bottles are being replaced by water bottles thay can be recycled and used on a continuous basis.. Meaning we don't need to dispose them rather we could use it again. Kudos to the police force here as they are also vigilant in this matter.
The government has also taken the initiative to keep two bins - one is the biodegradable and another non biodegradable in all the public places which includes public transport stand, railway station, public parks and in all tourist destinations. A means of awareness to the public.
When the government takes many initiative to remove the plastic by giving awareness through banners and local class, the public should definitely strengthen the government by supporting for this noble cause. Rarely does anyone gets a wonderful government like this.
Saving the planet means saving ourselves. It's better to stand united for this noble cause globally.
As heavy fine is being imposed, the roads are free of plastic. But due to more availability of street in the nook and corner of each place in this town, garbages are found here and there. While some of them take parcels, most of them prefer to eat in the way side restaurant only. Obviously it leads to untidy of road. In sone parts, we can see government public servants deputed to clean the untidy areas.
Let me just brief about this town. It is a small resort town where the population is very less. And where it is cold almost all the year. It is one of the most popular beautiful destination visited by foreigners. One can find the most beautiful sight seeing places here. To add to the beauty of the town, greenery and fog is being covered from all the four sides and more often snow falls during extreme cold weather condition. We have tourist from almost, every part of the country in the month of April and May. One of the main attraction is the flower show during season time. Wide varieties of flowers are available both for display and sale.
The people here are quite humble. The food is rather cheap. At a reasonable price, one gets to have a rather satisfactory meal. But only south Indian meals are quite popular here. On demand, you will be given food of your choice in few restaurants.
Infact, the credit for the making of this resort place goes to the Britishers who during their regime, may be 100 years ago, has developed and transformed the place into an excellent tourist destination. They travelled all the way to India to enjoy the cold and serene weather.
The photos are my own from the said resort town in South India.
People need to be educated on proper waste disposal means in order to make the world a better place and rid us of waste pollution.
