January 30th and March 23rd every year,we in India observe Martyrs' Day. It is also called as Shaheed Diwas in our official language Hindi. January 30th marks the 74th death Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the nation.
On January 30th, 1948 Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated in the Birla house, in the evening hours. He was called Bapu dearly by his peoples. His contribution towards the independence of the nation as a freedom fighter is quite well known throughout the world. He was the one who taught the lesson of non-violence and unity among each other. He continues to be the most inspirational figure.
After India got its independence in 1947, Bapu stayed away from politics and lived in harmony, peace and brotherhood. Today, a two minute silence is observed throughout India at 11 a.m.
The Prime Minister, the President and all other top political parties will pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at New Delhi's Rajghat on his 74th deth anniversary. The armed forces are designated to blow bugles, to honour the function.
