Security of lives and properties has no alternative. It is either there's security or no security at all. Security cannot be discussed outside effective policing. To maintain internal security of the nation , effective and efficient policing is very important. A well-equipped police force scared away all criminal tendencies.

In this part of the world , security of lives and properties is not taking with seriousness. Series of security breaches are recorded . Kidnapping , banditry , armed robbery are almost reported on pages of our National dailies. One would now wonder , are we not having police in our neighborhood ? Your answer is as good as good as mine. It is unfortunate that they are functioning as if they are not existing. Are they having the wherewithal or equipment to work with ?

The answer to the above rhetorical question is No. How can you expect the police to function. The primary duty has been abandoned , they are now acting as'money collector'. They collect stipends from commercial bus driver as substitute for checking the bus/vehicle particulars. They do whatever pleases them at border areas. Do you call that security work. At the least , this is no.

Are they well -equipped ? Are they carrying modern day guns ? Is their remuneration okay ? I doubt this ? Do they carry out their police duty with well mannered sense. They arrest innocent people indiscriminately and detain them illegally. This is image tarnishing habit that made members of the public to hate them. They are not following the laid down rule of law which presumed an accused to be innocent until proven otherwise. But treat everyone as common criminals. They take sides in a case without proper investigation and what constitutes their greatest undoing is shabbily presentation of cases in court as number one State prosecutor. This may not be unconnected to low entry qualifications. No well lettered individuals would like to associate with them just like that.

This type of scenerio operates in many third world countries. This has gingered the criminals to have a field day. There's no way we can keep criminals at bay without finding solutions to the issue of the police..

It is high time we concentrate on getting ourselves right in terms of finding the right personnel to be in charge of our security architecture.
