The Importance of Social work in the society.
Social work especially among Africans is still very much in development as the government doesn't prioritize social work as one of the most needed academic discipline or practiced based profession. Social work is much needed in almost every societies across the world. Social work is concerned with helping individuals, families, communities and also correcting injustices like rape, providing help for less advantaged people like the poor people, and so on. We can see social workers in almost every facets of life and organizations that includes schools, hospitals, prisons, various public and private agencies. Social workers responds to the needs of various individuals, groups, families and the community at large. They empower the less vulnerable groups such as children and women, internally displaced persons. etc.
In terms of getting funds to help others in the society, a social worker may be granted some budget for social work services from the government. Also a social worker can also help other people or be involved in social work by spending from his or her own pocket without anybody's help or assistance. It depends on whether you work for yourself or work under the government. Social workers may based their services on different aspects such as;
1. Child welfare
2. Health care
3. Marriage or family issues.
4. Mental health and substance abuse.
5. Internally displaced persons from war incidents. etc.
Social workers are very much needed in the society because of what they do. For example, Social workers work with health professionals like doctor to help patients. Social workers look into the reasons why a problem exist in an individual. Let's consider a person battling from depression. A doctor may prescribed antidepressants drugs and advised the patients to sleep. However, a social worker looks deeply into what caused depression and advised on ways to go about it. Social workers work hand in hand with the doctors. They look for ways to solve a patient depression by communicating or interacting through indepth interview with such person.
When dealing with sick persons, social workers also go to their clients' houses to check their hygienic conditions too. They ask about their food intake before they use their drugs.
Social work services provided many assistance for people especially vulnerable groups. Such assistance may include giving such vulnerable groups such as orphaned children access to education, retirement benefits for the retiree, grants for the ages, etc. Social workers also link people with community resources.
Social work in most underdeveloped and developing nations of the world is still linked to the remedial practice. What is meant by this is that social work is being practiced or regarded as some sort of remedial practice. It is when the problems that needed social work services has occurred that people feel the need to access social work services. Unlike the developmental practice that presents solution by looking at what caused a problem, the solution is already there. A social worker should be able to forecast an impending problems and look for solution. Sometimes social work is hinged on preventing problems, not by looking for solutions after the problems have occurred.
Social workers may employ different ways such as indepth interviews, one on one conversation with their clients in order to help them in their problems. Social work is still very much underrated in most developing countries but they are essential for a society well being.
I love social work that's my profession even when the government hasn't recognize it yet, some people think is a volunteer service, giving without taking
