I wonder what the average life-expectancy of a washing machine is, mine has began making the odd noise here and there and I am afraid it may soon be time for a new one, or at least a good used one. I don't necessarily need one that will outlive me and new ones are not cheap at all. Of course, since I live alone I could buy a smaller new machine instead of a full-sized one. Also helps having good credit so I don't have to pay all at once if I don't want to, but I've always preferred paying outright for things.

That sucks, I hope it will not break while washing. I lived a year without a washing machine, not funny at all. But I'm sure this is a luxury problem to most people in the world.
I'd rather the dryer broke, I know how to repair them.
Also a rotating machine, might not be that different.
It's the transmission in washers that are a royal pain to fix, and the drum type all have that electronic circuitry that can go bad. I like to keep things as simple as possible to avoid paying the repair shops a ton of money.
If I can fix it myself maybe I'll look for the tools needed to replace the old ones with new ones.
Trying to replace the transmission on a washer is almost impossible with machines this old, they stopped making that part for them long ago
Oh, I see, every year it's definitely different. But usually there are parts that are not changed.
This machine was produced pre-2005.
Gosh it was make sense for not production anymore. 👍👍👍
We now have a new one. The old one celebrated its silver jubilee but just one tiny part had to be replaced and not being available anymore we had to discard it.
normally it will be good for 4 yrs .. with extended life to 5 yrs... i also pay outright all my bills when they came in but if they offer zero percent interest for 6 months or more, i grab it...
I always buy them at second hand appliance stores. I pay about $200 and they last me about 5-years.
I got mine like 4 years ago i think? granted. I don't really use it that much since for me it's cheap and convenient using laundry shops and such. But whenever i use it it's a 10/10.- I kinda do the same, no payment plans. If i can afford it i buy it. Never bankrupt :P
Approximately 11 years, give or take a bit.
