THE ANNUAL SCREAMING OF THE CICADAS August and September seems to be the period that these rambunctious lil' fuckers are most active where I live (southern Illinois USA) and I decided to shoot a piece of video from my front porch showing what I hear during this period from dawn 'til dusk. These are not of the 17-year or 13-year varieties, these are the plain ol' annual scream-every-damn-year sons-of-bitches. I have 26 adult trees on the property. TWENTY-SIX. All full of the screaming buggers. Some days I really wanna take the chainsaw and get rid of a few... Curious what they sound like? I had no idea there were cicadas like these. I thought they were all the ones that live a long-ass time before they get their quick last hurrah
The 'annuals' actually spend 2-3 years underground (nothing like their brethren) but there are so many of them and they don't 'cycle' so you get a lot of them every year.
Really tormenting noise, someone can transform on to a neurotic person very easily hearing that bugs all day.
I hope you were able sleep... listening to the sound, i felt sleepy 😁
These things can be very loud and very annoying for sure. There must be a million of them in my woodsy area.
