A Child's Innocence

The child again repeated to the Doctor "when you open my heart please see if God resides in it". This is one of the forwarded message I received from a social media. Out of curiosity I just read the touching incident narrated by our late President Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

One evening our late President and his close friend, a renowned Cardiologist were sitting together and having a chat. The Cardiologist is one of the famous Doctor in the northern India for his position. He has performed various operatiions and was a successful Doctor throughout his profession.

He had a team of Doctors working under him which means he used to handle only the most complicated cases while referring the other patients to his junior Doctors.

Sometimes life is full of challenges. And the courage with which one is going to handle is to be the best end result.

The Doctor narrated an incident to the late President. One day as he was getting ready to leave the hospital, he could hear the cry of the parents of a little boy, below 5 years. Another Doctor who was attending to the boy felt that he should be directed to the Cardiologist , after going through his medical result.

On seeing the result the cardiologist at once felt the child will be living only for a short period of time. He at once called for the parents and said an open heart surgery should be performed immediately but then, chances of survival was little. On the other hand, if he doesn't perform the surgery the child will not survive for more than three months.

The panic parents decided to go ahead with the operation. He was hospitalized. So now the preparation for the surgery started. The child kept hearing about the open heart surgery but he was too young to understand.

The mother was the one who stayed with the child. Every night she made him pray to God to get well soon. When he asked where is God his mother gave the reply that "God resides in your heart".

On the day of the operation, the child was in the operation table and the Doctor thought in his mind after the operation will the child be the same as such.

The child on seeing the Doctor said "Everbody says you are going to open my heart." The Doctor was surprised. Again the child repeated the same question for the second time and the Doctor said "Don't worry child I will give you a medicine and you will not feel the pain."

The little boy immediately said "Iam not worried about that Doctor". And he continued "when you open my heart and if you find God there, please tell it to me after operation". The Doctor was taken aback.

The operation started and within minutes he knew the child was not going to live. Because the blood flow to the heart stopped. So he told the Doctors its over. And he went and sat desperately in the chair, but the little child's innocent words kept ringing in his ear. "If you find God .....".

Infact, he was broken. Immediately a miracle happened the para medics who were attending to the little child found the blood flow to the heart was returning to its normal. They immediately called for the Cardiologist and to his excitement he said let's continue with the surgery.

The surgery was a great success. And the surgeon told the President the child will live for another 60 to 65 years. After this operation, the Doctor made it a point to put a picture of God in the operation room and pray before performing any operation.

Miracles happen when we sincerely plead to the Almighty. It is just a sincere conversation between you and God.
