Don't wish things were easier, wish you were better.
When I look at the longevity of the redwood trees and bristlecone pines, I am grateful for the lessons they teach. As I have seen people consistently and persistently apply the individual zigzag path to growth, their natures are changed. They see growing pains as part of the process. They worry less, because they recognize that hard times won't last forever, and in the end they know they will grow and be better. They anticipate the growth opportunities and the accompanying growing pains that will surely come again, and they recognize that with each successive cycle through the zigzag path to growth, their courage, resolve, and character is stretched and strengthened. Their capacities and abilities are magnified. Remember the warp and weft metaphor. At the top of each growth cycle they celebrate the feeling and the knowledge that they are steadily realizing the people they want to be. This is the head and heart being aligned. People do grow and become role models in their chosen pursuits whether they came from ideal conditions like the redwood trees or harsh conditions like the bristlecone pines. Metaphorically speaking, these role models are not as affected by the fires from without and disease from within that seem to plague others around them. They just keep growing no matter what.
