McLean discovered something interesting about the interrelationships of our three brains, And that is what makes this topic relevant to time management.
This interrelationships creates our view of the world.
Our view of the world is important to consider, Because it reflects and affects our use of our time.
The more we deepen our understanding of our worldview and the functioning of our three brains, The more we'll clarify what is truly important in our lives and where we may choose to spend our time.
Let's go back to the three brains and take a look at how they are interrelated.
Here's the big “Aha.” One of these three brains can dominate the other two! This means our reptile brain can dominate our thinking, And we view the world at the survival level: Can I eat it? Or can it eat me? This can be the case even with someone who has a highly-developed limbic system and neocortex.
In other words, Have you ever met people who are highly intelligent and capable, Have the ability to get along well with people, But seem to use all their intelligence in the pursuit of conquering or defending against being conquered? Survival and conquest become the most important things in their lives.
I'm not talking about what people declare is important. I'm talking about what their behaviors say is important. You may even see this mindset in all of their roles.
They're in the survival, Conquest, And competitive mode at work with co-workers and clients, At home with their spouse and children, At play whether with other people or computer games, And even while driving on the road.
They see the world as primarily a competitive “Eat or be eaten” environment.
This may be part of the current reality in too much of the world around us, But that is not all of it.
Unfortunately, In parts of the world where war and violence dominate the society, Too many people are put in situations where the “Eat or be eaten” mentality is in the forefront.
So a certain degree of the “It's tough out there” Mindset makes sense.
Yet even in these extremely violent scenarios there are those who are able to rise above it and lead lives of inspiration and contribution.
So it's not the environment or the actions and attitudes of other people that decide what we ultimately do.
The part of the three-part brain that controls our thoughts processes, Makes decisions, And dominates the other two brains also determines our behavior.
Even if the reptile brain is not in charge, The other concern is when the limbic system or monkey brain dominates the other two brains.
This may mean that the pursuit of pleasure may be our dominant thinking and goal.
This means that we can make decisions based on avoiding pain, Repeating pleasure, Or going with the social norm even when the divine brain says it's not a good idea.
Have you ever seen smart people do dumb things? Sometimes we make decisions based on what felt good at the moment without accessing our higher or divine level of thinking.
Have you ever asked someone after she made a big, Obvious mistake, And you knew she was more than capable of figuring out,“What where you thinking?”
Have you ever wondered why you may also do dumb things—and not only that, But you do the same dumb things over and over again? You may even say to yourself, “I know better than to do that!”
It may be helpful to change the question from, “What was I thinking?” to “Which one of my three brains dominated the thinking?”
Too often the lizard brain or the monkey brain is the mastermind behind our actions, But the divine brain gets the blame.
For example, Have you ever made an unwise purchase on impulse (Monkey brain), And you then interrogate your logical, Rational, Intelligent self (Divine brain) as to why you made such a purchase? Our monkey brains are so powerful that they can actually hold our divine brains (The most intelligent part) hostage.
Have you ever wondered how it is possible that on the one hand some people live inspirational lives, While on the other hand some people live their lives with more cruelty and violence than anything that is seen in the animal kingdom?
It can be traced back to the strength of each of the three parts of our brains.
Whether we live inspirational lives or vile lives depends on which of our three brains dominates our thinking.

Liked & Subscribed. When I read the phrase "three brains" I could not comprehend it in the beginning. However, in the end, I could relate it with our id, ego and superego. Quite nice way of presenting the human instinct. Thank you :)
