Jute (scientific name: corchorus spp) is a monsoon crop. In Bangladesh jute is called golden fiber and jute is a hundred year old tradition of Bengal (Bangladesh and West Bengal).

Jute is an annual crop. Its lifespan is 100 to 120 days. Asitra / Shravan from Chaitra / Baishakh. Jute is a rainfed crop. Humidity of air is 80% to 90%. Jute cultivation does not require any chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The average yield is about 2 tons per hectare. Jute fiber: Jute fiber is soft, shiny and up to 1-4 m long. However, single fibrous cells are 2-6 mm long and total 18-20 microns. Jute fiber is mainly composed of cellulose and lignin. Usually jute plants are biologically processed by soaking the fibers in water.

Two types of jute are found in Bangladesh: Corchorus capsularis (white jute) and Corchorus olitorius (tosha jute). It is a plant belonging to the family Tiliaceae. It is believed that the word jute originated from the Sanskrit word patta. The English name of jute is jute. Probably from Ure (Orissa, India) language.
