How well do you know the history of your country?
My country is Nigeria, a country that is known as the most populous black nation in the history of the world.
However, according to the bereau of statistics, the population of my country Nigeria stands at a respective 203 million able bodied men and women in the last population census count and the statistics of the year 2020 put that figure was to be an improved and by some distant, with a 2.8% in growth as what we currently have now is a mass population of 213.01 million persons or able bodied men and women in the year 2021 alone being the subsequent year running.
In Nigeria however, we are very united people and speak a well over 525 native languages of the which the most commonly spoken languages are the; Hausa language, the Igbo language and the Yoruba language, which forms the three most populous and popular ethnic groups in Nigeria as though we have other ethnic groups and their many native languages too like the; Edo, Ijaw, Ibibio, Fufude, Kanuri, kupa, Tiv, Nupe, and many more other languages that are spoken across the federating units of Nigeria.
Our basic occupations in Nigeria
Our basic occupations in Nigeria are: farming, fishing and sulpturing as we have one of the very best sculptors the world has ever seen.
From our farm lands, we produce some tubers of yam, some cassava paste, some palm oil we get from the too many palm trees that are well concentrated in our villages where their harvesting and processing are mainly done even at a large scale that are most times intended for the market where they are exported for some money to buy our other needs.
We also harvest some perishable commodities like the tomatoes, onions, water melon and many more other perishable items from the Northern part of the country which we consider to be enough to serve the nation as a whole when they are distributed for some real money exchange at the market places
Our people too are traders with the most outstanding and remarkable application of wisdom in many kinds of buisness no wonder the world at large wants to have some buisnesses to do here in Nigeria given its geographical size that stands at a reasonably 923, 768 sq.km and a location at the heart of the West African region where it shares borders with countries like; Benin republic, Chad republic and the Cameroon.
Naira is our currency and means of exchange.
Our country's currency is called the Naira which is a means of buying and selling within the shores of Nigeria and the sad news is that its value is well down the pecking order of important currencies in the world as one dollar ($1) to a Naira(#) at the exchange market rate is placed at a high value of over five hundred naira (#500) which is high and can cause a lot of economic hardship as are being noticed today by us here in Nigeria.
Nigeria as one of the poorest countries in the world.
Despite all our geographical size, location, population and enlightenment, we are still one of the poorest countries in the world with a total of GNI of a little more above $545 million which is according to the world bank rating for the poorest economy best on per capita accounting figures and statistics.
Our flag and national anthem
Our flag is green white green with a coat of arm that bears two horses by the left and right hand sides of the almost V-shaped figure that has an eagle standing right on top of it and its motto that reads; unity, faith, peace and progress.
The white pall as can be seen, symbolises the meeting of the Niger and Benue rivers at Lokoja.
The black shield represents our fertile soil, while,
The two side by side horses represent diginity.
Our national anthem reads: O God of creation,
Direct our noble call,
Guide our leaders right,
Help our youths the truth to know,
In love and hosbesty to grow and live in just and true,
Great lofty heights attain,
To build a nation where peace and justice shall reign.
The pledge:
To pledge to Nigeria my contry,
To serve with truth and uphold our honour and glory,
So help me God.
Our national endowment.
In Nigeria, we are very much blessed with many mineral resources like the cocoa, the palm fruits, oil and gas, gold, limestone, and many other ones which we sell to the outside world and make some money from them.
