Hello learners, hope you are doing well. In my 1st article I wrote about very very important functions of vitamin A. Today I want to briefly discuss about vitamin A.
*functional forms:
1. Retinol
2. Retinal
3. Retinoic acid
But still there is an inactive form of vitamin A which is called provitamin A or Beta carotene. Beta carotene is found in plants whereas other functional forms of vitamin A found in animal sources.
*Functions: However I have discussed important functions of vitamin A in this article.

* Deficiency symptoms:
Now lets talk about deficiency features .
As vitamin A has several important functions in our body less intake of it causes several deficiency symptoms:
These can be devided into 2 groups
1. Ocular maifestation
a. Xeropthalmia
b. Keratomalacia
c. Night blindness
And finally and gradually if symptoms were not treated earlier
d. Full blindness
2. Extra ocular menifestation:
a. Dry and scaly skin
b. Keratinization of epithelial cells of Gastro Intestinal Tract.
* Sources:Lets have a look to the souces of vitamin A so that we dont miss this so important vitamin in our diet.
1. Animal sources: vitamin A is widely distributed in animal sources rather than plant sources.
a. Egg
b. Meat
c. Fish
d. Liver
e. Fish oil (e.g. cod liver oil)
2. Plant sources: Vitamin A is also present in some plant sources as well.
a. Papaya
b. Tomato
c. Green leafy vegetables
d. Carrots
