Herbal medicine is known as 'Ayurveda'. Medicinal plants, leaves, fruits, various types of seed oils and bark scattered around us become the main ingredients of this treatment. Natural ingredients like aloe vera, basil, basil, amalki, neem, betel leaf, black cumin, bask, arjuna bark, honey etc. are the main ingredients of Ayurvedic treatment. This trend was introduced in ancient Indian medicine about five thousand years ago. A part of the 'Veda' - the part of the Atharva Veda that deals with treatment is Ayurveda. So it is the main or original section of medicine.

In ancient times, people were treated through plants. The word 'Ayurveda' is a combination of two Sanskrit words - 'Ayush' means life, 'Veda' means science. The word Ayurveda means the science of life. It is a medical procedure that focuses on healthy living. In Ayurveda, life is thought to be a combination of body, mind, feelings and soul. Ayurveda diagnoses the disease only after considering the physical and mental condition of the patient. Moreover, the patient's daily life, eating habits, exercise, etc. are very important in this treatment.

When the British came to India, the Indian medical system included Ayurveda, Unani and various types of folk medicine. In the nineteenth century, Ayurvedic physicians of Bengal used to advise the patient to follow proper diet and other rules and regulations while taking medicine. Renowned Ayurvedic doctors used to teach the students about this treatment. Gradually the greatness of this treatment spread to the West as well. Western researchers started researching Ayurvedic medicine and the effectiveness of this treatment came out in the results of their research. At present India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka - these countries have improved Ayurvedic treatment. Besides, Ayurveda has gained popularity in other countries of the world as well. This treatment is now known as an alternative treatment.

The scope of Ayurvedic treatment in our country is still very small. Ayurvedic treatment is usually available for chronic or chronic problems. Many people resort to this treatment for colds, coughs, body aches, skin and hair problems, asthma, gastritis, stress and weight loss. The only government Ayurvedic hospital in the country is located at Mirpur in Dhaka. There is no government Ayurvedic hospital outside Dhaka.
