90 % of an iceberg sits under water .

Fact No-37:

When seawater turns to ice , it releases its salt and creates super - salty brine . The brine is colder and more dense than the surrounding water , so it sinks as the seawater freezes on contact and forms a ' brinicle , ' which slowly traps anything it touches in ice .

The average iceberg weighs 20,000,000 tons .
