Budgie parrots tend to be very intelligent unlike unlike other larger parrot species but people misunderstand this thing most of the time and think that those affordable little birds are not smart, which in fact is not true. Budgie parakeets tend to have the brain and ability of a 2 years old human being. They are incredibly smart and can be taught tricks and recall training along with other types of training's which will definitely make you feel happy and astonished at the same time.
You read that right, they can definitely learn how to speak just like any other parrot species in general. They are very small but can definitely speak better than some larger parrot species. Budgies tend to be very smart and can memorize approximately 150 words if I am not mistaken and that is huge compared to their size and their tiny brain. One famous budgie parrot which is named disco that is famous on YouTube can definitely speak very good and calls himself a doctor and says how hard is it being green which indicates the colour green of some budgies, fun and funny little bird so check him out. Male budgies tend to be the speakers and not the females.
You will be amazed on how good and fast those little birds can learn to perform tricks, you can teach them basically anything you want in general as long as they can understand it and they will definitely give back what they have learnt. Budgie parakeets along with other parrots and even canary birds can be trained to come to you on command which is called the recall training, this type of training requires patience along with some treat to teach the bird on how to come to you on command after saying their name. Some other tricks you can teach your budgie are performing loops around your finger, playing basketball with a budgie-friendly ball and a basket, teach them how to speak or imitate voices or sound, you can also teach them how to ride a skateboard which is designed for budgies and is very small. Budgies can learn many other types of fun tricks.
If a pet bird costs only 3 to $5 should not be disrespected nor taken advantage of, and should definitely be treated just like any ordinary larger parrot species. Grabbing the budgie will make you lose his trust and this is kind of a disrespect for the little guy by considering him very small and doing whatever you want with him. Do not chase your budgie around because it will make him panic. Those little birds are not toys for children and should obviously be taken care of on a daily basis while changing their water and food also on a daily basis. Budgies also need at least one hour per day flying outside in your room which should be also safe for them to fly in. When you get your pet budgies outside of their cage make sure to cover any sort of visible glass so the budgie doesn't fly and hit in it, close all the windows as well so he doesn't escape by mistake, and make the room budgie-friendly so he doesn't bite a cord that is electric or somehow injure himself with something pointy or sharp, or maybe even falling inside your mug or cup by mistake while landing. Budgies are a type of parrots and they are not typical birds so they don't tend to fly too much and they usually sit still and chill.
Cover the budgies cage with a sheet in winter or in summer and keep space for air. Turn off the lights and do not disturb their sleep schedules because budgies sleep around 10 hours everyday and make sure to not disturb them or wake them up with heavy noises or high TV volume. In winter season if the weather is below 18 degrees Celcius, try to keep your bird as warm as possible inside a warm closed room with food and water including if necessary, a heater inside the room.
Budgies are birds and birds tend to eat some type of grains, while budgies probably can't eat all sort of grains they definitely have a lot of grains to choose from including a lot of fruits and vegetables.They can eat peeled off sunflower seeds occasionally only, because it is a treat, and can eat dandelion leaves along with spinach everyday. Fruits like apples are great for them as well including limited intake of cucumber because cumber is also a treat, and boiled eggs are also great for them but maybe twice a week only. Fruits like avocado are toxic for budgies and including chocolate and cookies and should not be given to them. There are plenty of other food that you can feed your budgie on a daily basis which are grains vegetables and some fruits. Chillies that are spicy are also great for them and don't worry they do not feel the heat.
If you are buying one single budgie make sure to stay with him 24/7 basically all the time or else he will probably die of loneliness. Budgies are very social animals and also very affectionate towards each other and towards their owners, and love to talk to each other, play with toys or with each other, or with their owners, whatever fun things. When buying a budgie if you have school or university or a job, make sure to buy 2 or 4 and the more the better because they're used to being always in a big flock of birds in the wild. The budgies cage should be really big, bigger than you think, one single budgie needs a cage which is approximately less than 1/4 in size of an average bedroom size so he can fly inside it happily, and the more budgies you have the bigger the cage should be.

I'm reading about this birds for the first time but I saw it's picture before. I saw lots of people who misbehave with their pets, allow their children to use them as those lifeless toys, they should understand that those innocent creatures too have their life.
I have heard lots of stories about this bird, they sometimes appears in some movies and even in America's Got talent. They are truly smart and can learn lots of tricks. And indeed you are right, this kind of bird needs a pair as they can't stand with loneliness, i think they feel depression too like us humans.
