Wedding Traditions on Giving Gifts to the "Ninang" and "Ninong"
We received a huge gift on December 27. It is unexpected, actually. Mommy was asked to be one of the Ninang sa Kasal. To be honest, I don't know who they are. All I know is their last name and how they are related to my late Mommy Merly; she was my Mommy F's partner before she died of breast cancer.
Anyhow, we received a huge gift that I think is too much. When I saw it, I just thought, "Whoa, getting married is really expensive!" Lol. We received chunks of pig meat that weighed 3 kilos, a lot of kakanin, and condiments like the ingredients for adobo ba. We had soy sauce, vinegar, pepper, onions, garlic, vegetables, and magic sarap. as in complete rekado na nga, lol.
I mean, is it really required to give that big gift to those who will ganap as the Ninang sa Kasal? Or does it depend on your beliefs, Nong Ikakasal? Even to those mga ninang sa binyag, may paganito din ee. I remember when it was my niece's christening, they asked me too to become her Ninang ba, then gave us a gift that was wrapped in that yellow plastic na parang pang balot sa yema.
I mean, that's another expense, so I think it's too much. And going back to that gift, sa pag-nininang sa kasal. Mommy F feels like 3000 PHP ($55.11) is not enough as a gift for the newlyweds, lol. It was already a plan that she would give that amount to the couple, but when she received that gift that day, she just felt like it was not enough anymore. I mean, just for the amount of their gift to Mom, it is already big. She's reall worried that time.
But seriously, talaga, why is getting married so expensive, and why do some people still choose to break their marriage just for lust to other person? Like they chose to cheat and forget all the expenses they paid for their wedding, isn't that ano, maiba, haha? Hindi kaya sila nanghihinayang? Lol.
By the way, do you also have this kind of tradition? Also, because Mommy F wasn't able to attend the wedding, she just asked the family of the newlyweds to visit our place so she could hand her gift to them. So yesterday, they visited us, and I am not sure how much Mommy F gave them. But they were very thankful when they received it.
Also, I don't have the picture of it because when we received it I got busy butchering them haha. I mean, it is really a whole chunk so I have chop them into small pieces so we can put them on the refrigeder, lol.
