My experiences tell me something different. All those I helped out with advice, cleaning up their place, buying cars, and giving high amounts of money did nothing for me. They not even said, "thank you". If I would have invested in myself, my children, we wouldn't live in poverty now and my children could study and have a better life. What happened to me happened to many. You do not build friendships by investing in the poor. Once they have a better life they forget about you or do not want anyone to know about you, their past, and see you as a threat to their new position.
