It's absolutely nothing to be happy about
Don't shout 'happy Independence' to my ears
For there's nothing happy about the Independence
The dysfunctional laws in the Constitution are not happy;
The rickety roads infested with numberless potholes
And stained with fresh blood of accident victims are not happy;
Even the undervalued Naira plagued by the mismanagement
Of a corrupt and deadbeat economy is not happy!
Before you shout your fallacious phrase,
Go up North and ask the misplaced citizens,
Living their lives in perpetual dread of terrorism,
If they are happy,
Go down South and ask the sorely marginalized folks,
Tortured by a genocide and jam-packed against their will since the '70,
If they are happy;
Before you shout your fallacious phrase,
Ask the disgruntled parents, whose daughters were carted away
Like cheap goods by brainwashed religious gunmen,
If they are happy;
Ask the bereaved children and widowed wives,
Whose fathers and husbands have been showered with hot bullets from the mindless muzzles of insurgency,
If they are happy;
Before you shout your fallacious phrase,
Ask the innocent youths who are victims of police brutality
If they are happy.....so pathetic
Ask the myriad of ...molested girls whose rapists roam the street scot-free
If they are happy;
Go on, ask the frustrated graduates without worthy employments
If they are really happy
Before you shout your fallacious phrase
Tell me, what's really happy about the Independence
