Why do we feel negative? How to overcome on it

A study by James and Latham in 1998 revealed that after some time after the death of their family members many of their relatives the grieving persons would react with sadness. This reaction was not due to the loss of a loved one but it was caused by failures in life such as work or relationships. For instance, studies have shown that individuals who are bereavement mourn more than those who lost a loved one. This trend had been observed for a long time and it has remained even when people were brought up where they learnt how to cope. However, studies have also indicated that there is no particular way that an individual can react to a funeral like grieving.

In order to understand what goes on when an individual gets angry or frustrated we have to know about anger and depression. Anger refers to intense emotional response directed at someone, property or group of people. People experiencing anger may be angry at someone or may have angry thoughts about something you did (Johannesen & Schusterman 2003). On the contrary, sadness refers to the feeling that arises from the pain of losing someone. A person with sadness will always cry when you lose a friend. It is generally an unexplainable emotion. Studies have indicated that people react to feelings of sadness differently. To some extent they tend to avoid sadness by focusing on joy, love and happiness while others feel it is better to face sadness (Jill Vogel).

In case of sadness, the person may become isolated in his or her dwelling. Thus, he or she will always be alone as compared to people who tend to grieve with friends. Studies indicate that when an individual gets upset his or her behavior would change. He or she may engage in substance abuse, criminal activities and other antisocial activities like stealing and child homicide. In addition, the person may be involved in physical violence and aggression. The behaviors include; slitting the throat or use handkerchiefs to cut, throw away or beat. Some people may even go to jail because they are unable to handle anger and sadness.

As mentioned before, humans respond to negativity by taking different things with them. Negative attitude could be acquired at earlier stages of development. Negative attitudes arise as a result of frustration or fear of something, the environment or a situation. There is a general belief that negative attitudes could mean bad things for the person who holds them (Johnston 2001).

In conclusion, emotion is very critical in our lives. Having an emotion means that we have a deep connection with each other and all people around us. Our emotions help us determine what we want and what we need to do. Emotions help us decide on different issues in our social and private lives. With the negative emotion comes other negative effects of the same emotion. As a society we should try not to nurture negativity but to ensure that everyone should maintain good positive emotions throughout their lives.

How to overcome on negativity?

Negative thoughts are a normal part of being human being. It is the natural behavior that people get used to be and not even think about the necessity for them. The way of thinking that has been learned by an individual, whether it is good or bad, is one that is very hard to change. It takes a lot of effort to overcome these negative thoughts and in this context I am going to address how to overcome these tendencies as well.

We usually tend to identify ourselves with certain things in life that seem to be true to us. This is where negativity comes from. We tend to see the world that surrounds us in such a manner that would make us lose all sense of good, positive and anything else that makes up our personality. We always have those negative thoughts in our minds and we tend to avoid the situations that remind us of that. However, in case you will think about the situation which reminded you of your mind in this way, then it would be difficult to overcome it at once. You would lose your desire to face another day when it will be too hard for you to think positively. One can easily see the example of a person who tends to remember something wrong done to him by his boss, this will be difficult if he goes into another workplace. There is always the fear of what might happen to me if something like that happens to me, so it’s more effort to overcome it than the thought of losing my job to someone else. This kind of thinking is a natural thing which requires no effort to overcome.

However, there are other types of thinking and this one will take some effort. Some examples of this are those that go against the rules of science. It is said that it is impossible to live a long life without encountering something or making a mistake somewhere and even when it does not matter how many mistakes one made in life, the fact that they were wrong makes it impossible for you to leave behind a better future. Things that cannot be avoided should be left and those that come through one’s experience should remain to be left. If you will have a chance to overcome the situation that reminds you of the wrong decision you took then it will be easier for you to go through that kind of thinking and it could lead to the opportunity to go further in life as you will end up getting to know yourself and become better and stronger than before. Being able to overcome these thoughts will allow you to focus on the things that are good and important in life and help you to realize that you are one of the people who deserve being loved and cared for.

How can we get rid of negative feelings?

Negative feelings are the most common and it is what we get accustomed to. Sometimes we even believe that they are normal, because we all feel them all the time. In the past many years, psychologists have tried to find out how to make them go away from our lives but it has not been easy. With the advancement in technology nowadays, we get the ability to control everything that surrounds us and hence we can choose to get rid of what makes us feel unpleasant. People tend to avoid talking to each other, we don’t want to be seen either. These are the things that I usually deal with especially when handling finances and business affairs. When this happens, we tend to keep on doing whatever we are told to do, like keeping busy and working even when that doesn’t matter how hard we try. As soon as this happens, we get affected emotionally and in extreme cases we start to see someone we trust, or even lose something precious.

The first step then is to understand that your money will be safe, so you need to get over it and focus on those that benefit from your decision. Then, you need to get over the old habits and stop worrying so much about the present or what others are saying about you because there is nobody really good than yourself and therefore you should ignore everything that anyone thinks about you. Another approach is to seek professional assistance if you want to get rid of the negativity that will hurt you and also to tell your doctor why you are feeling this way and why exactly you have these thoughts. This will help you to get rid of the negative feelings, which will eventually allow you to focus only on what is best for you and not the negativity around you.
