10 best ways to manage your time
Time management is the ability to use one’s time in an effective manner. To accomplish this, we have to put effort into choosing strategies for the best use of our time. In this regard, we can rely on personal skills and experiences as well as professional knowledge and experience. With time management comes a variety of techniques that help us to manage our time and not waste it unnecessarily. Many people argue that this process is easy for them since they already have an understanding about the importance of time management. Most importantly, with time management, many people are able to learn more from their mistakes as compared to those who do not. This paper seeks to discuss the various time management techniques that I can utilize.
1) Elimination
Eliminating is a technique in which a person wastes his or her time instead of using it effectively. When I am busy working on a project, I could finish a task within a given period of time. Sometimes, I might need to complete a task at home instead of going out. Such activities have been eliminated by eliminating so that I may concentrate on the work that needs my attention. The only reason why I find myself wasting my time while doing these activities is because I try to do everything to get a higher score in any assignment or examinations. I would rather have spent most of my time on achieving certain objectives than spending unnecessary energy trying to achieve the desired outcome within a short period. Therefore, if I spend my time on elimination, there will be no wastage of my time because there will be very little wasted time on tasks that nobody has to complete.
2) Procrastination
Procrastination on the other hand refers to the action of postponing one’s important responsibilities for a brief duration of time. It implies that a person ignores his or her normal responsibilities of attending school or attending the workplace in order to give space to other important things like performing some activities. The effect of procrastination is that such persons end up being late or missing deadlines hence failing to deliver quality work. If I were to procrastinate every little task that I could think of, I would always feel exhausted and feel tired from working all day to night. Consequently, I would always miss some assignments or tests which are vital for me because they require a lot of time and effort for success and it is therefore very important for me to avoid procrastination.
3) Time Management
Time management refers to the process through which a person manages his or her time efficiently. The objective of time management is to ensure that there is not too much pressure on the person and also to reduce wastage of time. Personally, I am a punctual individual which means that I tend to allocate time for each activity and always work according to a schedule. For example, when I am studying for exams, I would schedule study hours and other related things that I need to do during this period of time. However, I know that time management goes beyond a regular timetable which includes attending the lectures and conducting classes. As such, I tend to prioritize my studies and avoid wastage of time.
4) Self-Discipline
Self discipline is the set of rules and standards that an individual follows without being forced to follow a specific pattern. One can say that many students do not follow self-discipline as they often end up loosing focus especially if they are involved in a long list of things they do without knowing it. These students tend to slack off after completing an assignment because they fear failure. There are times that students start failing classes which are due to poor time management. They tend to forget to follow routine of attending lectures so that they might not suffer from fatigue. As a result, many students have to face failure after class 4th due to lack of time management. Students should therefore learn to master their time management and avoid wastage of time while doing homework or working on other assignments.
In addition, students must observe the following principles: avoid multitasking, to work independently and to remember the deadline.
5) Personal Interest
In general, it is very hard for me to identify personal interests as most of them are things that I do throughout the year and not depending on one’s passion. However, in case a subject of interest arouses my interest or becomes something where it fascinates me, I would consider studying in order to broaden my knowledge and skills. On top of that, I have a huge love of learning that drives me to excel in whatever I engage to do. Similarly, I do not have a lot of time to go to school and participate in extracurricular activities which makes me want to look forward to studying whenever possible. Through this, I have found it very difficult to stay focused of academic subjects and instead prefer having fun in sports and music.
6) Work Towards Goals
Work towards goals refer to the processes carried out over a period of time in an attempt to achieve a particular outcome. Success in life requires dedication, continuous training, commitment and persistence. Failure of one for instance in academics results in inability of the student to sustain a career in any field or to pursue a dream job. If one can work towards a goal then why not in academics as they will reap rewards at later stage.
7) Plan Ahead
Plan ahead refers to the systematic planning to make sure that resources and facilities of an organization are arranged before the actual operation starts. Planning entails having clear plans of what to expect in advance of its implementation and also to come up with future contingency plan. A successful manager has to ensure that there is coordination of different departments in the running of an organization. Having planned resources and facilities enables a manager to anticipate problems or unforeseen circumstances which might arise hence avoiding them.
8) Organizing
Organization refers to the art and science of organizing different aspects of life to maximize their efficiency and effectiveness (Wagner, 1988). Organizations have three main functions: to produce products; to maintain them and, finally, to run them smoothly and smoothly so that they can achieve their goal. As a university, I plan ahead in terms of what to look forward to and also set milestones which reflect my progress toward my studies. I do this to avoid wastage of my time which I would normally commit in projects which have no time limit.
9) Keeping Pace
Keeping pace refers to the ability to keep track of the daily changes and performance of a system. It also includes being in line with time requirements and schedules so that the system can operate efficiently despite the change of the market environment and different environmental factors. For example, sometimes there may be changes in the market with respect to the price of goods and services. As such, the company should plan ahead and ensure that their products do not lose sales but also to be flexible enough to react to the changing situation before time. This does not mean that the companies operating in today’s world should become obsolete as it is hard to predict the current trends. People have to make choices based on the kind of information that is available in the environment and the prevailing conditions that prevail.
10) Learning
Learning refers to the acquisition of new knowledge or skill in an endeavor to apply it successfully to solve a particular problem or achieve goals. In cases where people are used to relying on memory, learning techniques will improve the overall performance of a company. Learners are encouraged to learn from the practical skills provided to them when learning a process is introduced in a company. For example, learning will enable workers to understand how the organization runs and also to apply their own expertise and skills in solving the problems. The first step involves the learners learning materials so that they do not become bored. Once learners have been taught the basics of the basic concepts, they are taught how to relate with others so that they can have better relationships. Employees are encouraged to develop new skills and knowledge so that they can perform their duties under supervision and thus improve their performance.
Conclusion
With proper time management techniques and awareness about the importance of studying, one can easily find a way through which he or she can become organized and at peace with oneself. The only thing that would discourage one from practicing such a practice is laziness with regards to time management. Instead, one should ensure that he or she uses adequate time to enjoy things that bring him joy and satisfaction. By ensuring that one stays focused in areas that one loves to do and is keen about, one will find it easier to take care of himself and enjoy life. Additionally, using tools that facilitate the process will ensure one gets better results and this is the kind of approach that an individual should embrace to enjoy his or her life. Thus, by managing his or her time wisely, one can realize success and avoid losses in any undertaking in his or her life.
