Values comes from the Latin word valore which means to be strong or firm and to be meaningful or to have meaning or significance. From the root of this word, we can conclude that a person needs to be strong or firm in valuing anything that really makes sense. For example, learning can be valued if it is devoted to extra effort and perseverance with sacrifice. This appreciation can never be claimed if we are not physically or mentally stable or strong.

Each person may have different meanings of the word appreciation. For a citizen who devotes his large amount of time to earning a living, valuing it for him can only be compared to the value of the peso against the dollar. If the question is a parent, appreciation is the goals and virtues they want to teach their children.

According to psychologists, appreciation is anything that is lovely, charming, praiseworthy, wonderful and inspiring, light and satisfying, and useful. It encourages and guides to choose and do the specific or specific goal for the development and well-being of the individual. Examples of this are some personal values such as positive self-acceptance, honesty, obedience, fame, chastity, dignity, simple living and so on.

According to tradition, value refers to the basis or basic action or deed and the core of belief. To the average person, it refers to something important in life. It also refers to any good. The good are the things that

achieve that is not harmful or hurtful to ourselves and to others. Examples of this are respect for the elderly, family, honor and dignity, enjoyment of friends, respect for life, obedience to parents and so on.

According to Max Scheler (Dy M., 1994), appreciation is an object of our intentional emotion. We can understand appreciation by feeling it. It does not wait for righteousness to appear in our lives. Appreciation is unthinkable; it feels. It is not an object of the mind but an object of the heart. Our minds are blind to appreciation; like our eyes deaf to noise and our ears blind to color. But that does not mean that we can no longer think of value. When it is thought through, it is no longer in appreciation as appreciation but in the concept of appreciation. Scheler says that appreciation gives meaning or quality to human life. Here are the characteristics of appreciation:

a. Immutable and objective. That is, values do not change because they, especially those at a higher level, are qualities on which personality depends. For example, health values do not change. If the person does not respond to health values; he does not eat nutritious food, does not exercise or regularly drinks alcohol and smokes, it is not the value of health that is detrimental but the person himself. Because these activities will cause him to get sick.

b. Transcends on one or more individuals. Appreciation can be for everyone or just for oneself. For example health care is for everyone but the vocation to become a nun is personal to an individual.

c. Gives direction to human life. Appreciation is what a person is meant to achieve. In striving to achieve this, human behavior is shaped and directed towards reaching

his appreciation. A goal is based on appreciation, in order to achieve this goal, the person must have a specific intention to do so. For example, because I value my health I aim to have a healthy body. To achieve this I plan to drink milk every day.

d. Creates what ought to be (ought-to-be) and what should be (ought-to-do). For example, the

appreciation of justice is

must be there, alive and exist. So "I" must be just and act justly. In other words, appreciation is the foundation of obligations, beliefs, aspirations and attitudes.
