PUBG Mobile brings season 16 with various in-game updates. But with the arrival of this new season, Kaspersky experts found hundreds of phishing pages aimed at stealing PUBG Mobile accounts.
This can not be separated from the efforts of game developers who often provide offers in the form of small incentives and rewards for playing their games.
For example in PUBG Mobile, this new season comes with the latest items, monsters and mechanics from the game Metro: Exodus.
Cyber criminals do not miss this opportunity to carry out their evil actions.
Based on the official statement received by Liputan6.com, Wednesday (25/11/2020), Kaspersky identified 260 phishing pages that offer PUBG Mobile users the opportunity to win new items.
According to the report, to get the fake prize, users only need to send their game account via Twitter or Facebook profiles.
When the entry fails, the user will be asked to provide additional information such as an alias name used in the game, phone number, and other personal details.
As a result, scammers get not only the user's social media accounts, but also other personal details. Everything aims to get a PUBG Mobile account to be resold for profit.
Kaspersky Security Expert Tatyana Shcherbakova says cybercriminals are very well prepared to welcome the new season of a game.
"The phishing pages we found were very convincingly designed, both in terms of design and interface that gamers are usually very familiar with," said Tatyana.
To avoid becoming a victim of phishing with this scheme, here are Kaspersky's recommendations.
1. Do not participate in any raffles other than the game's official website.
2. Check the information through the official sources, if the related activity really exists, the game developer will probably not keep it a secret.
3. The schematic can be very convincing, so the user should look very carefully. Gamers can also use reliable security solutions that won't let users visit phishing pages.
