Rape is not a new issue in our society, but recently the number of rapes has increased at an unusual rate in the context of Bangladesh. Moral and emotional values are deteriorating day by day with the increase in the rate of education. Bangladesh has always been known as a country rich in culture and tradition in the heart of the world. However, the deteriorating values of our country at present do not mean that our country will not be known as a 'rape country' in the near future.
Not only rape, the social conditions we are creating after rape are not only affecting the justice system of the perpetrator, but also disrupting the normal life of the victim. Many victims do not think twice about committing suicide. When the victim's family is going to seek justice, they have to be despised by the society which is questioning our justice system, as well as the next life of the victim. If we do not quickly create public awareness by identifying this situation as a problem, the future may be very bad for our nation.
What is rape?
Rape is generally the act of having sexual intercourse with a person without his or her consent.
Victim helplessness
According to Section 375 of the Bangladeshi Penal Code 180 (Act XLV of 180) - a man will be considered a 'rapist' if he has sex in any of the following situations-
First , against the will of the daughter
Second, without the girl's permission
Third, with consent, but with consent for fear of death or injury
Fourthly, in consent, when the boy agrees to marry the girl, the boy knows that he will not take her as his wife in the future.
Fifth, without his consent or consent, when the victim is under fourteen years of age.
Creating awareness
Before any problem becomes too big, we should think about it and create awareness. How can we avoid bad problems like rape-
1. The parents of the family should be friendly with the daughter. Parents must know who their daughter's friends are or who she hangs out with. In the same way, girls should discuss with their parents, no matter how small the problem, to keep them informed. Introducing parents to their friends. Working women should inform their parents about their office environment.
Daughters should take special care of children or mothers
2. Rape is never just an issue for girls, it is a social problem and men have to play the most constructive role in society to overcome this problem. A girl's responsibility is not only to her family, but also to society.
Only constructive behavior of men can prevent rape
3. Some time before puberty, boys and girls should be taught about sex so that they do not abuse sex. Children need to be made aware of mistakes from an early age. The mentality of blaming girls for boys' sexuality needs to be eradicated.
It is the responsibility of the family to inform the children about their mistakes
4. Boys need to understand the importance of "no" from an early age. Any relationship needs to be taught to respect each other’s consent.
"Consent" is required for any relationship
5. Clothing is one's individual freedom. Clothing never means bad, bad is reflected in our thoughts.
Clothing can never be a cause of rape
If we identify clothing as the cause of rape, we may be educated but not self-educated.
Whenever a girl leaves the house, she should go out at her own risk. Some defense, close people should keep the contact to themselves.
Believe in yourself that you have the ability to solve any problem
Self-confidence solves any adverse problem and fear transforms itself into a victim - this is something every girl should keep in mind
Every person in our country should know about the punishment of rape
The punishment for rape under Section 9 of the Special Act on Suppression of Violence against Women and Children 2003 is as follows-
1. Raping a woman or child should be punished with severe imprisonment and fines.
2. If the victim suffers any loss due to rape or after the rape or if the victim dies after the rape, the rapist will be sentenced to death and will also be fined one lakh rupees.
Justice is required
3. If a woman or child is raped by more than one person and that woman or child is killed or injured, each person will be sentenced to death and a fine of one lakh rupees.
4. Attempting to kill or injure any woman or child after rape will result in severe imprisonment and fines. Properly confessed to rape will result in imprisonment for up to ten years, which may be reduced to five years, but not less than that, and may result in a fine.
5. If a woman is raped in police custody, who will be in charge of that custody and is directly responsible for security, will be punished for failing to provide security. Accurately pleading guilty to rape will be punishable by up to ten years in prison, which can be reduced to five years, but not less than that, and can lead to fines.
Punishment of rape under section 37 of the Penal Code:
If someone rapes, he must be punished, which is equivalent to ten years in prison, and a fine if the raped woman is his own wife and is over 12 years old.
What to do with a victim after rape and us
1. Talk
A victim should share the problem openly with his family members. In many cases it is seen that the victim wants to suppress the incident out of shame, but this makes the problem more obvious later on. Talk to family members and the case should be opened through a legal counsel. It is best to get counseling from a psychiatrist on a regular basis. Because in most cases the victim loses his mental balance. And in order to fight any legal battle, the victim needs mental health. Do not file a case in a hurry, as this is a very sensitive issue.
2. Bring a change of attitude
None of us can change that after any accident. But think about it, we can't stop our lives. One rapist should always remember that he will never punish himself for the injustice of others.
Angelo was raped at the age of eight and she was silent for 7 years. He later became known as one of America's most beloved and celebrated poets and writers. He has many awards and honorary degrees above 50
3. We have to do it from a social point of view
The biggest problem in our society is that we all want to say, but don’t want to hear. Everyone in our society should remember that a girl is never to blame for a rape. The first mistake we make is forgetting that we are blaming a victim for an accident, which is not logical at all. We must not forget that a girl or a girl child has had the worst experience of her life. So he needs a little sympathy from the people around him for his survival.
The institutional authority should ensure that her peers in her studies or workplace maintain a normal environment without keeping distance from her. In the same way, so that the parents, brothers and sisters of the victims do not feel reluctant to continue in the society, we should not criticize them but stand by them in bad times. We should shame the perpetrator, not the victim.
If we do not move forward today, future generations may be a corrupt nation. And we will get a polluted country, which none of us want.
