Polythene should be discarded

Polythene is made of a material that is harmful to the environment. It does not mix with the soil for hundreds of years. As a result soil fertility loses energy. The polythene thrown in the dustbin falls into the drain with the rain water. This causes waterlogging.

Ah, holiday from tomorrow! I will leave the busy life, noise and hustle and bustle of Dhaka city and go to the lonely beach for a few days. According to the plan, I bought a ticket for the night bus and left. In the morning I see the sea in front of my eyes. The bus is still running to reach the destination. Hopefully, our journey will be over in five to ten minutes. The sampans in the distance seem to be floating in the air. The road went some distance and took a right turn. The sea went blind. We arrived at our destination. The hotel was booked in advance. So no problem. I left my bag at the hotel and went to the beach. Many more tourists like me have come. Some came with friends, some with family. Everyone is rejoicing. Feeling very good.

This is real

After overcoming the first feeling of joy, I was confronted with some unexpected reality. I crossed the main road to the beach and stepped on the front shelf and immediately I saw the dirt scattered in the sand. Coconut shells, bidi-cigarette packets, biscuit-chanachur packets, polythene bags, plastic water bottles and much more! What am I looking at instead of a line of small crabs walking on wet sand?

Millions of people visit the world's longest beach every year. To them, beach litter must be a nuisance. However, it is not only the tourists who pollute the environment of the coast by throwing plastic or polythene. It can also start at home. Suppose you always bought something from a store and brought it in a polythene bag. Then he threw away the polythene bag. Those bags are transported as garbage to various places through wind, rain water, floods etc. Did you know that in the capital Dhaka, if a family uses an average of 4 bags per day, then more than 14 million polythene bags are being discarded. Thus billions of polythene are being deposited on our surface. Polythene is made of a material that is harmful to the environment. It does not mix with the soil for hundreds of years. As a result soil fertility loses energy. Polythene thrown in the dustbin falls into the drain with rain water. This causes waterlogging. Polythene accumulates at the bottom of the river and fills the river. Burning polythene causes air pollution.

Light weight, cheap and what do you want! Unnecessary use of polythene bags is increasing day by day. Since the beginning of production in 1950, 6.3 billion tons of plastic has been produced worldwide, which is equivalent to the weight of one billion elephants! According to a study, by 2050, the amount of plastic waste in the world will be 12 billion tons.

The cry of the sea

Now, of course, there are baskets for littering the beach. Volunteers often carry out clean-up operations on the beach sand. But is there any special change in the scene? In fact, wherever we throw away used plastic bottles, bags or items, most of them end up in rivers, canals or the sea. Today, sea water is burdened by the pollution of plastic and polythene products. We are destroying the environment by throwing polythene and plastic products here and there. You may be surprised to know that 13 million tons of plastic waste falls into the sea every year. If this continues, there will be more plastic waste in 2050 than the weight of fish in the oceans.

When animals eat plastic waste

Plastic wastes can be found in rivers, canals and even the stomachs of various birds and aquatic animals that roam the oceans. Aquatic animals and birds often eat plastic waste without realizing it. Naturally they cannot digest these. As a result, they do not get hungry or eat food. As a result, they die tragically due to lack of necessary nutrients. As a result, the food chain is breaking down. Biodiversity is being endangered.

Prevents pollution

Every minute the world uses 1 million plastic bags. This huge amount of bags is being discarded after use which will survive in the environment for several hundred years intact. At the same time, the production and use of new bags will continue to increase day by day. So where is the end of this disaster? The first step in preventing this contamination is to change one's attitude. We need to reduce the use of plastic and polythene in our daily life. The use of recycled paper and jute bags should be increased. Bangladesh has recently discovered a method of making a type of polythene bag from jute. A team of researchers from Bangladesh discovered the method of making polythene bags from jute cellulose. Dr. led this team. Mubarak Ahmad Khan. He is the Chief Scientific Adviser of Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation and former Director General of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Research Center.

Golden hope on the other side of the tunnel

Most of the polymers that have the ability to dissolve in nature on earth are made from edible substances (e.g., corn, cassava, etc.). Bangladesh is the first country to invent the process of making polythene by reacting cellulose made from jute at different temperatures and pressures in different processes. Using this bag does not harm the environment. When it is in water, it slowly begins to mix, burning to ashes.

Polythene is a substance that takes hundreds of years to mix with soil. It does not erode or mix with the soil. Polythene is chemically harmful to the environment. Apart from that, this polythene gets stuck in the sewerage line and obstructs the flow of water. As a result, when it rains a little, the water freezes.

Eighty percent of drains in Dhaka city are blocked in polythene bags. As a result, if it rains a little, waterlogging occurs. Polythene stuck in the drain makes the drainage system unusable.

Talking to doctors and experts, it is known that eating hot food wrapped in polythene can lead to cancer and skin diseases in humans. Packing fish and meat in polythene causes anaerobic bacteria. In addition, brightly colored polythene contains lead and cadmium, which can cause skin diseases.

Polythene boycott has been heard all over the world. Mentioned in various international publications at different times - it is harmful to people, animals and the environment. Disruption of drainage is seen as a cause of floods. Deposits in seabed and river basins damage soil, water, the environment, biodiversity, and marine life, and plastics that are unusable re-pollute the environment. Waste management is more expensive because the soil is plasticized. The use of plastics poses a threat to public health and destroys fertility and immunity, causing respiratory problems and cancer.

Environmentalists have always welcomed the ban on the use of polythene. They recommend using bags made of jute instead of polythene. But if you buy any product, you can easily get a polythene free. That is why everyone returned home with polythene without thinking about the future.

According to traders, polythene is easily available. Vendors now come to the shops and sell polythene. Moreover, buyers are more comfortable with polythene bags than jute bags. A jute bag costs 20-30 rupees. Buyers want to buy free polythene bags instead of jute bags.

We need to take initiative before reducing the use of polythene. When people are aware, the country becomes beautiful and clean from the risky situation.
