Well this topic I am about to discuss is something different from what I write everyday, in fact, it's a personal observation and study of human behaviours and that of lower animals, their common similarities in behaviour and attitude.

I will be using an Alpha male chicken which is called Rooster Chicken and male human (Father) to discuss their common behavioural likeness.

What is Rooster? A  Rooster chicken is said to be a male chicken that is above one year of age and it can also be known as a cock. A rooster is known to protect the group of chickens especially the female ones. Unlike the female chickens, the Roosters are known for their “cock-a-doodle-doo” during dawn. They do not lay eggs.

Who is a Man? According to Wikipedia, a man is said to be an adult male human. Now, who is a Father? A father is a male parent. The wife and children in the family put their trust in their father to protect them and care for them.

These little definitions I have discussed here will guild you properly to have an insight about this discussion. Having studied the behavioural attitudes of the chicken under my care all these years as a domestic farmer, I was privileged to watch the way these birds behave, interact with each other and react to any external approach, or to an unusual situations or conditions that may arise within their territory.

Same way these birds behave and react to their kinds is the same way male humans (fathers) react and behave to their families when they come in contact with their families.

LETS GO TO THE BUSINESS OF THE DAY.

Their common similarities are as follows;

When a Rooster chicken is in the midst of his kind, he shows superiority and power by making sure he is in charge of his territory against any other animal of his kind, he acts as the commander in chief and does not allow any other Rooster chicken to take over and even if any other visiting rooster comes to take charge, he fights to finish just to make sure he does not lose his territory. This is also seen in the behavioural attitude of a male human (father), where a father is the head of the family and stand as the commander in chief of his household to protect and safeguard his family and his territory.

Secondly, the Rooster alerts all the chicken within his territory to take cover and protect themselves from been attacked by any predictors within, they do this with a continuous sound in form of a cry they make which alerts the mother hen and their chicks to be alert and take cover to a safe place. This also can be seen in the character of the male human (father) when they are in charge, they try to put all the necessary measures to safe guard all the people in their care.

Thirdly, the Rooster chicken will not eat food when other hen and chicks have not eaten, if you watch the Rooster closely when they see any food around them, they make a call sound to inform other hen under their care to come and take the food and as other hens rush the food, he stays behind to watch them eat and make sure he put a surveillance to watch over them against any other alpha rooster coming to eat. This also happens to male human (father), he makes sure he provides food and watch his subjects eat and satisfied before he can eat his own food.

Futher more, a Rooster chicken is so jealous in his nature and does not like to share his female hens with any other rooster around, he likes to dominate them and guard them jealously from the reach of other Roosters around and this is exactly what we see when it comes to fathers in the family, they protects their wives and does not like to share their wives with any man. In fact he gets jealous at the slightest sight of any man coming too close to his wife.

Rooster chicken goes to his resting cage last when other hen and chicken must have entered their cages, this is to make sure that they are safe before he can go in to rest, the same way a father behaves in the family, he makes sure that everybody who went out are back from where ever they went to before he locks the door at the night.

Finally, a Rooster in some cases may leave his place of comfort for the hen under his care to stay and rest, while he supervises the activities of the day. Same way does a father behaves. A father can forfeit his pleasure just to make sure his family is well taken care of. He goes extra mile to work hard so the family will be happy and satisfied.

This observations and study about the common similarities of behavioural attitude within these two animals made me to realise that humans and other animals have a lot in common and this most not be taken for granted rather appreciated for the good of mankind.
