Indirect colonial rule, a problem of the African continent.
I want to start by pleading with Read.cash, my readers, fellow writers, friends and the entire world who will make out time to go through my article today to please take your time to understand my point of view in this article in a positive direction and not as an article that preaches hate for Western civilization to Africa continent, nor article that goes against western cultures, traditions and norms. The idea for writing this article is to serve as a tool that can actually help the African continent redefine and rediscover their true origin, true identity, culture and also stand as a positive pointer to unite the African people which myself also belong to, and also advocate for all of us as Africans to start believing in ourselves and in our different languages, cultures and traditions and try to make our languages, voices and ideas count for the African continent and the world at large.
As much as I try to shy away from the truth, from the happenings and stories of events that we see and even hear each day of our lives from this side of the continent Africa where I come from, you will agree with me that African continent and our system is indeed still living and indirectly existing on the control of our colonial masters who left our lands many years ago, we are not yet free from the grip and hands of our colonial masters who came to our African soil to colonise us many years ago.
After so many years of independence and freedom from the white man's rule and control, we still have not actually find it worthy to live and walk in the path of our own dreams, cultures, traditions, customs and norms as a people that have been set free from their master, we are yet to start our lives in the dictates and ways of our forefathers layed for us to follow. We can not in our minds and hearts accept totally the efficacy of our own traditions, religions, cultures, norms and customs. We still believe in the supremacy of the white man's culture and traditions more than our own African traditions and cultures. We have even tagged our own dear traditions and cultures as evil, as something that can not hold more value, and we have failed to follow the ways in which our forefathers have been existing with before the white man came and conquered us through colonisation.
Permit me to state and explain some of the factors that may bring your mind to fully understand the message of my article today, so you can be able to understand my point and try to see reasons with me why it's necessary that African continent should sit up and do the needful in finding the lasting solutions to these problems we have been faced with. These factors are as follows;
The direct usage of colonial master's language as an official language for communication at the government level and other government offices and functions; this particular factor is one problem that African continent should find a way to deal with, if you travel to other countries of the world, for instance Germany, whether you like it or not, a German man you meet on your way will surely speak and Interact with you with their own native dialect or language and it's expected of you to make use of your translator so you can understand him and what he is trying to say. Same thing happen when you watch other government officials who come to meet each other maybe for a meeting discussion, they speak their own dialect and make use of their translator to understand what their partner said to them. But in Africa it's not the same, you are expected to express yourself and communicate in your colonial master's language at any office you enter or person you meet with as a means of communication thereby throwing away your own dialect away.
Enforcement of colonial master's language study in our african educational system as a criteria to qualify and study further professional courses in our tertiary institutions, colleges and school; it's now a mandatory that you must pass your colonial master's language as a course in our school system as a student for you to qualify to study any professional course in the higher institution. But that is not obtainable in other continents of the world, a German student or Chinese student does not require to pass any colonial master's language before he or she can study any choice of course in the higher institutions of learning in their country. Except if you are studying in another country that is not yours, you may learn their language for easy communication.
The introduction and adoption of the colonial master's type of traditional marriage ceremony(white wedding) as the main recognised marriage ceremony in African continent; African continent have now seen white wedding as the most important wedding ceremony to be recognised rather than their own traditional wedding, if you perform traditional marriage according to African culture without doing the white man's marriage style, you are seen as someone that have not done complete wedding. While in the western world the white wedding ceremony is their own type of traditional marriage done by the white men.
Having trust and believe in the quality of the professional qualifications and skills of the foreigners than the indigenes of the country; African manufacturing and construction firms, companies, etc now hire foreigners to man some of their businesses and firms instead of our african graduates, elites and professionals who may even have more ideas, knowledge and experience to also run the company and firm better. That believe by the African man that white man does it more better still lives in the minds of the African man and in the minds of African continent up to this day.
Always relaying on the foreign loans and financial aids coming from the hands of the colonial masters; This believe that we need assistance and support from the hands of our colonial masters have really made us as a continent to believe that we can not actually achieve our dreams and goals without seeking for help from them. We virtually have trusted our faith and hope in the foreign goods and services without putting our eyes down to what we can produce by ourselves, to our abilities and capabilities as a people and as a continent with great potential and skills, we have become too loose to aspire for greatness as a continent with substance and wonderful resources within our reach.
If we must change from this difficult challenges and problems African continent are facing right now, we must try to unite and free ourselves from this mental slavery we have allowed ourselves to be for too long in our hearts and embrace positive change. We need to start believing in ourselves and in our diversities as a people with great potentials and as people with different languages that makes us unique.
Africans please let's wake up and make Africa great again!!!
