What is the importance of medical records management?

Medical records provide information about a person's health. Doctors can find out about their patients' allergies, immunisations, medication histories, past treatments, and other details. This knowledge is important in medical care because people who have a specific sickness or a history of a condition respond differently to different therapies than others who have no history of that condition.

Access to medical history, in other words, is crucial for providing quality care and minimising prescription errors. A person with diabetes, for example, will have different results from an ER operation than someone who does not have diabetes. Medical records enable clinicians to make sound clinical decisions.
