I know this is the BCH side of things, but the idea would still hold true theoretically for BCH. The same experiment could be run for any token, this is just an example:

I thought it would be interesting to look at the average amount of money needed to live a modest retirement and how much Hive you would need to stack in order to reach those levels at different Hive values.

# The Average Retirement

According to this Investopedia [article](https://www.investopedia.com/retirement/how-much-you-should-have-saved-age/), you should have around 80% of what you annual salary was per year. Meaning that if you retired making 100k a year you should have 80k saved per year for your retirement years.

However, the census says that the median annual household income in the United States is $67,521 as of 2020, so we can use that number instead. If we use the 80% rule, we get a needed retirement income of 54,016.80 per year. According to [this article](https://www.fool.com/retirement/2018/02/24/heres-the-average-length-of-retirement-will-your-m.aspx) the average retirement lasts around 18 years.

On average, you need 972,302.40 over the course of your retirement

# $1 Hive

At this price level you would need a nest egg of 972,302.4 Hive... Something that may be a bit difficult to achieve though we have some whales now with more than that.

# $2.50 Hive

At this price level you would need a nest egg of 388,920.96 Hive It would take you almost 78 years to stack this amount of Hive if you are bringing in 5000 Hive per year; a bit too long here obviously.

# $5 Hive

At this price level you would need a nest egg of 194,460.48 Hive. It would take you almost 39 years to stack up this amount if you are stacking 5000 Hive per year.

# $10 Hive

At this price level you would need a nest egg of 97,230.24 Hive. This amount is still difficult to achieve, but over a long period of time it is certainly a reasonable amount of Hive to collect. If you stack 5000 Hive a year it could be done in under 20 years.

# Conclusions And Reminders

Well I think it is important to note that HP increases at 3% per year, so all of these year totals would be a bit lower. Additionally, there may be airdrops, new tokens, new users, gains in popularity that can increase or decrease the amount you can earn; these are simply estimations.

If Hive reaches $10, it could not only be a full time job, but also serve as a huge portion of your retirement fund if done right. It will be wildly difficult to reach these levels and if they are reached they would not be guaranteed as we can't predict the market; however, there is real earning potential to be found here.

I wouldn't recommend banking your future on the success of your Hive account, but it definitely can't hurt to keep building it up. If we see price levels that exceed our current expectations, many lives can be changed and we can actually find ourselves reaching retirement at earlier ages than ever before. DYOR but it can't hurt to spend a few minutes each day writing a post and leaving some comments; you never know what could happen in a few years time.
