9th of December, 2021.
I was really hyper active and at the same time happy last night, when Chelsea Football Club drew their last group game in the Uefa Champions League which will make them face either of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid or Paris Saint Germain Football Club in the next round, whilst as expected FC Barcelona are now in the Europa league after a 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich. The last time FC Barcelona were in the Europa League was 21 years ago.
However, getting up from bed this morning, I started feeling somehow in a particular way. The only time I do have this feeling is December/January. It's the harmattan season, in the abroad, it's the Winter season over there. Before I continue, let's see the meaning of harmattan.
Check out my amazing sponsors. Thank you so much!
@Officialrosh1 thank you for becoming my newest sponsor. I'm really grateful.
Harmattan
Harmattan is a very dry, dusty easterly or north-easterly wind on the West African coast. It takes place from December to February. Harmattan always originates from the sub saharan desert with dry wind. When harmattan starts, you just know it's the end of the year already.
One of the few things that shows it's Harmattan season;
Blurry cloud - Harmattan makes the cloud not clear, that is blurry even in broad daylight. And this most times causes accidents even on the road, because road users don't usually see long distance users but only user close by
Dry cold and dust - This is the period you'll start seeing people on cardigans or different wears to shield cold. There is also dry dust, this as a result of the wind
Dry lips and skin - Different kinds of lips will start surfacing these times. Many lips will be so dry to the extent that it gets really softer and starts bringing blood as a result of little or no touch. The same applies to skin too, many skills will change to white as a result of dryness of the weather.
Health issues - People always have problems with their health during this period, because they (Africans) are not used to anything cold which will mix with dust and all. This however brings about health issues like cold, catarrh, cough and so on
Dry or sore Throats - As a result of the dryness in air and weather, this leads to the throats being dry as well and sore. Throats are meant to be always fluid filled or greasy not dry.
How to deal or cope with Harmattan season;
Cardigans or covered clothes - The cold in this period is always excessive, therefore, it's advisable to wear clothes that won't allow cold into one's body. Socks and gloves can also be used, also a mask to prevent dust.
Application of lip gloss and shining body cream - Applying non shining body cream is not the best, one should get shining cream and rub well on the skill, this is to prevent dry or hard skin. Also lips gloss on the lips to prevent the dryness of the lips
Take Water and hot fluids - Bottle of water should be carried along wherever one is going to this period. Hot fluids like tea, pap, custards and so on is really recommended these times
Take your bath with warm water, as not to increase the chances of the cold entering the body. Moreso, eat hot foods during this period and avoid cold ones.
Avoid injuries - injuries these times are always painful and do have a slow healing process. It is best to avoid any injury related work or play.
NOTE
Harmattan season, especially in Nigeria have always experienced fire outbreaks in this season. In the time past, even till last year Harmattan, there were many cases of fire outbreaks at different big markets.
It is understandable that the season enhances and triggers fire outbreaks, regardless, safety precautions can be put in place to prevent these occurrences.
I really cannot say this event won't still occur this year, because it has always been like that. I hope all goes well and I wish everyone and families safe December and January.
I'm so happy, it's still the countdown to Christmas. I can't wait any longer. Thanks to everyone one that's been reading and engaging, y'all are the best.
Thank you for reading!
The harmattan period just makes everywhere dry, our lips, our skin also tend to be white in color and that's really a sign of the end of the year in Nigeria
