Mosquitoes-a real nuisance

Can you imagine how pleasant warm summer evenings would be without mosquitoes? The annoying buzzing that wakes you up and puts you to sleep is that annoying itch that they leave us with after they get refreshed with our blood. They really are a real nuisance.

MOSQUITOES are a small parasitic insect that comes to the fore on hot days and feeds on plant juices and the blood of birds, reptiles and mammals.

Because we mammals are also human, our blood is also on the mosquito's diet.

There are thousands of species of mosquitoes, which are also very numerous. Sometimes they were widespread only on hotter continents such as Asia and Africa, but fortunately they are very "flexible" and durable, so they are quite common in our country as well.

Sometimes it’s hard to believe that such a small thing can be so annoying. However, we just remember those hot nights when we are getting ready for bed and all of a sudden we hear around our heads that characteristic and annoying buzzing “zzzzzz - bzzzz” that makes us unable to sleep.

After such a sleepless night, many people wake up and smear this annoying animal in the morning without question, on the newly whitewashed wall. The satisfaction of this may outweigh for many that it will need to be bleached again.

As if they weren’t annoying enough on their own, they are also major carriers of some very serious illnesses, such as chills and dengue fever. You may find it interesting that only females drink blood from mosquitoes. So in reality, only female mosquitoes are parasitic.

People keep wondering why some of us mosquitoes sting more than others. And here I offer you the answer.

1.Blood type

According to a study, mosquitoes are particularly fond of blood type 0 and these people are said to sting twice as often as people with the most common blood type, i.e. A. People with blood type B are supposed to be somewhere in the middle.

2.Exhaled air

Mosquitoes smell the carbon dioxide that a person exhales at a distance of 50 meters, and people who exhale it in larger quantities (that is, larger and stronger people) will therefore attract mosquitoes faster. This is also the reason why children are bitten by mosquitoes less than adults.

3.Recreation and metabolism

In addition to carbon dioxide, mosquitoes are also attracted to the smell of sweat, especially people with a higher body temperature, which means that overheated and sweaty recreationists are accordingly more affected. Because our genetic predisposition has a lot to do with sweating, the genetic lottery has exposed some people to mosquitoes even more.

4.Skin bacteria

Thousands of different types of bacteria live on our skin in a completely natural symbiosis, but they also smell different from mosquitoes. A 2011 study found that while some types of bacteria attract mosquitoes, too many bacteria on the skin even repel mosquitoes. This is also the reason why mosquitoes like to sting us on the ankles and feet, as the skin there is too robust for larger colonies of bacteria.

5.Beer

Just drinking a large beer will make you more attractive to mosquitoes, a study has shown. Drinking beer raises the level of ethanol in sweat and slightly raises body temperature, but the researchers of the study were not able to fully prove that the more frequent mosquito bites are really related to these consequences. What if they also just smell like beer?

6.Pregnancy

Various studies have shown that pregnant women are attracted to twice as many mosquitoes. Experts believe that this is because pregnant women exhale up to 21% of carbon dioxide, and their body temperature is on average a little higher than normal.

7.Clothing color

It may seem absurd, but mosquitoes use not only smell but also their eyes when choosing their prey. They are especially attracted to black clothes, as well as dark blue and red.

8.Genetics

We have already mentioned the genetic lottery, but it should be emphasized once again and separately. Experts say that 85% of mosquito bites can be attributed to specific genetic predispositions (regardless of our blood type, metabolism or all other factors listed above). Unfortunately, they don’t yet know exactly where this ‘winning gene combination’ is hiding and how exactly it works.

9.Natural immunity

Researchers were also interested in why some rare lucky mosquitoes almost never sting, despite any of the above. They found that their skin secretes certain substances that act as natural repellents. It is this research that promises that perhaps once in the future we will catch this substance that is not liked by mosquitoes in a bottle and get rid of mosquitoes once and for all, even if blood group 0 flows through our veins, we are in a black T-shirt or pregnant.

If you put a tomato stalk in the room where you sleep, the strong smell will repel mosquitoes.
