Someone knows a little more, someone has a superficial idea, someone has never heard of it and isn’t even interested.
At least a minimal knowledge of the functioning of the lymph is necessary not only to maintain and maintain health, but also to understand our organism as a living being.
The lymph and lymphatic system are at least one degree more important than the vascular system. If the blood system is the river of our organism, the lymphatic system is the "force", ie the cleansing organization that supplies and nurtures these rivers.
WHAT IS LYMPHA?
The word lympha (lympha) comes from Latin and means moisture. And really, lymph looks like water or a turbid liquid or like milk, depending on where it is located and what that moment contains. We all saw it when, for example, we scratched our finger and a clear liquid leaked out of it. It's lymph. Or when we get a respiratory virus, a clear liquid flows from our nose on the first day. It is also a lymph that actively fights the virus that has settled on the mucosa of the upper respiratory tract. Also tears are lymph, only with the addition of adrenaline, sweat is lymph, only with the addition of salt (sodium, potassium, urea), gastric juice is again lymph with acid, saliva is lymph, but with an added drop of gastric juice and enzymes… if in lymph we add a little poison and salt, we get urine.
Lymph cells are basically lymphocytes, which are (beware!) The main cells in the body's immune system. Blood contains leukocytes, which protect the organism during the invasion of pathogenic substances and organisms. Lymphocytes are a type of leukocyte that are destined for a definitive victory over pathogenic substances.
THE ROLE OF THE LYMPH SYSTEM
The lymphatic system is responsible for the proper functioning of processes in the body, cleansing the body and for the proper functioning of the immune system. Toxins are also excreted through the vessels of the lymphatic system; the lymphatic system flushes toxins and waste products out of the body.
Lymphatic system compared to the cardiovascular system The lymphatic system is longer than the cardiovascular system, and more lymph fluid flows through it than is in the bloodstream.
HOW THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM WORKS? The lymphatic system is intertwined throughout the body with lymph vessels and capillaries - interstitials. In addition to the blood vessels, the lymphatic system also has nodules, known as lymph nodes, in which the defense cells are killers, with which the body fights viruses and bacteria. There are more than 600 such nodules in our body. The better known nodules are located in the armpit, in the groin, and on the neck. There, lymphocytes, which are our defense cells, multiply. Lymphatic fluid is a yellowish translucent body fluid composed of water, protein, fat and waste products, and white blood cells, which are key to a good immune system. It can be seen with the naked eye: lymph fluid is found in sweat, fluid in the blister, nasal discharge, tears, and wounds.
Lymph fluid travels from the smaller to the larger vessels. In the so-called lymph nodes, the fluid is filtered and the body’s harmful substances are removed, eventually draining into the thoracic interstitium located in the chest. In the thoracic duct, toxins pass into the bloodstream, which sends them to the liver and kidneys, where they are excreted. The lymphatic circulation also excretes toxins through the skin (sweat).
FUNCTIONS PERFORMED BY THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM:
-Return of proteins and electrolytes (salts, acids and alkalis) from the intercellular fluid back to the blood. -Protection of the body against parasites and pathogenic organisms. -Removal of dead erythrocytes from tissues that accumulate due to infections and trauma, including toxic substances and bacteria that occur in the intercellular space of tissues and organs. -Lymph filtration in lymph nodes. -Good lymph function ensures normal urinary function. -Carrying beneficial (and not just bad) fats into the blood. -Some substances can get into the blood exclusively through the lymph. -Connecting all organs, systems and tissues with each other. -Maintenance of microcenters as well as microcenters of tissue, organ and blood cells.
OVERLOADED LYMPHATIC SYSTEM AND CIRCULATION: It can happen to us that the lymphatic circulation is overloaded. Then the lymph is full of toxins, waste products, viruses and microbes. When the lymphatic circulation is overloaded, our body cannot function well, so health problems occur. An overloaded lymphatic system occurs due to lack of exercise, poor diet and stress. Toxins are also introduced into the body due to polluted air, pesticides and chemicals. Symptoms of an overloaded lim system are:
-Feeling bloated; -swelling of the tablecloths on the hand; f-atigue; -itchy skin; -dizziness; -headaches; -lack of energy; -depressed state; -fat around the waist.
HOW WE CAN TAKE CARE OF THE BEST POSSIBLE LYMPH FLOW?
A healthy lymphatic system requires an overall healthy lifestyle. Since the lymphatic system does not have a pump, which makes the flow of lymph fluid slow, we need to support it a bit and help it ourselves as well. If we do not move anything and just sit, the lymphatic system will be slower. If we drink sweetened juices and eat processed foods, we will further ‘seal’ the lymphatic system. If we are severely stressed, stress hormones will be released, constricting the lymph vessels and the flow of lymph fluid will be hampered. So all the advice on healthy living is not in vain.
There is a lymph cleansing mechanism that includes LYMPHOSTIMULATION, ABSORPTION, and RENEWAL.
Do not eat foods high in preservatives, dyes, fats and various carcinogens and do not burden the lymph with it. Eat more vegetables and fruits, drink plenty of clean water, reduce the amount of alcohol to a minimum.
Lymphatic drainage helps a lot here, which accelerates the drainage of lymph from the limbs to the center of the body, where, as we already know, the lymph mixes with the blood. Which lymphatic drainage to choose: machine or manual? It depends on what problem we are actually solving. If someone has a swollen joint or local area on the body, if someone is after surgery or after a trauma, then manual lymphatic drainage is better for accuracy. But here then it is not about stimulating the outflow of lymph throughout the body. However, if we want to drain the whole body, mechanical lymphatic drainage is most recommended.
Rest and sleep Lymph fluid can be distributed evenly throughout the body during sleep and rest. Adequate sleep therefore helps the body to regenerate and make the lymphatic system do its job more easily.
Relaxation Stress affects the whole body; also on the functioning of the lymphatic system. Stress hormones constrict the lymph vessels, making it harder for lymph fluid to move. Relaxation is therefore important. Laugh, this will also affect the thoracic interstitium, which will speed up lymph flow. Laughter will also release good hormones.
Sauna and Kneipp High temperatures in the sauna will cause sweating, and thus the excretion of toxins from the body. You can also use Kneipp; alternating cold and hot showers will speed up the flow of blood and lymph fluid throughout the body.
Deep breathing Deep inhales and exhales will affect the thoracic interstitium, and thus accelerate the flow of lymph fluid, in addition, it will also relax you. When taking deep breaths, pay attention to the upright posture.
