Love and fear aren't actually at war with one other, and neither does the dictionary. Instead, dislike, disgust, or perhaps the most frequent of all, hatred come to mind when people think of the opposite of love. 

They think of courage, bravery, and strength when they think of the opposite of fear.

Many individuals, however, believe that love and fear are diametrically opposed.
