Biden Slipping...Again
It is often funny how politicians try to spin their successes. The reality is that most Americans, and I think anyone around the world where politicians exist (which is of course, everywhere), follows what's going on more closely than the political powers that be actually realize.
Take President Joe Biden. His latest approval rating has fallen to a dismal 38%. Most of it weighted on economic concerns. How could one not be concerned?
When it comes to the economy, that's what people feel more than anything. They can see the rising prices of their food when they go to the grocery store. They know that when they fill their gas tanks now, they are paying twice what they paid just a couple of years ago.
As one famous pundit, James Carville, albeit a democrat, once said, "It's the economy, stupid."
At least in America, a lot of the time voters vote with their wallets.
Part of the problem is the contrast from reality when the president speaks about the economy. When he uses phrases like "robust recovery" and "amazing results" and refers to inflation as "just a little bit of pain," all of these things make most people feel that there is either a really strong disconnect with reality...
Or the president and the democrats are just plain lying.
Beyond that, it makes Americans feel like there is no real plan. In other words, if they don't see a problem, what would be getting done to address it?
On top of that, when the blame game is played, that also leaves people a bit uneasy and more open to questioning what's really going on. President Joe Biden, for example, blamed gas prices on Trump. But what really caused gas prices to surge was the fact that within hours of taking his oath of office, Biden reversed all of Trump's energy policies which had brought gas prices down during Trump's time in office.
Prices at the pump doubled, and rather quickly.
The Biden administration also signed into law tens of billions of dollars of stimulus and new spending—all money that does not exist and has to be printed. This was not the only catalyst for massive inflation in the U.S. which has had a ripple-effect throughout the rest of the world. But it was a large contributing factor.
The shutdowns during Covid didn't help either, since it became a part of what continues to be a supply chain disaster and created one of the largest worker shortages we've ever seen.
We're not lacking people. We're lacking people willing to work. And some of that stemmed from people being paid, by the government, not to. That also fueled higher wages just to attract people to be hired. And of course, that adds to prices for everything as well.
The bottom line is that the current administration is out of touch, and the American people seem to know it. That's why Biden's approval ratings are so low. And very low, I might add.
And let's face it. It's not just the economy plaguing this president. It's been one disaster after another and one failure after another. His presidency is similar to that of Jimmy Carter in the 70s.
It took bold ideas from Ronald Reagan to right the ship when he took office, and his ideas worked.
If the American people are smart, and I think they are, Biden must be a one-term president, and a new face with similar bold ideas as Reagan had needs to be in office. That being said, it is an interesting and polarizing time in politics, so who knows what comes next?
Trump should have been the clear choice in 2020 for reelection. But that didn't happen because presidential elections were treated like an episode of American Idol where it was all about a popularity contest and not about what's best for the country.
We cannot make that same mistake again this next time around. But there is also a lot going on this time around that could muddy the waters a bit.
Besides another massive field of potential candidates on the republican side, you've got Trump in the equation as well. The nominee does matter if Biden is to be beat. Right now, I lean toward DeSantis, but despite all that the democrats and the media have tried to do to quell support for Trump, he's as popular as ever, and the more they mess with him the more popular he gets.
On top of that, there is still a deep question as to exactly how Biden won the election. Sure, it's a hotly debated topic rife with conspiracy theories. But there's also a rather strong case to be made.
Nonetheless, people are paying close attention and that's what matters. Let's hope their thoughts line up with their votes, because voting for someone not getting the job done serves no purpose but to perpetuate the pain and make things much worse.
As it is always said, elections matter. And we're learning the hard way how true that is as we continue to suffer under Biden.
It's frustrating to see Filipinos keep on electing officials who clearly have convicted cases of graft, corruption and such. I'm pretty sure this does not happen only in our country but man, Filipinos are the most gullible ones 🙃
I agree with your statement. There are many people willing to work who are clean and have the purest intentions of making the country better but are not given the chance. That's why I have become apathetic in politics. It's tiring to go through that cycle over and over again.
